“Today, the forces attacking Jewish people are the same ones oppressing women across the Middle East. If the world continues to turn a blind eye, we embolden these regimes and open the door to more atrocities.” – Dr. Charles Asher Small This isn't just a regional issue—it's an assault on human rights, equality, and dignity. When the world remains silent, we enable further violence and injustice, allowing regimes that oppress women and minorities to continue unchecked. 🔗 Learn more about the discussions at the European Parliament and ISGAP’s role in fighting for human rights: https://lnkd.in/ekXfbH5K #FightAntisemitism #HumanRights #Equality #ISGAP #ProtectWomen #GlobalJustice

Protecting Vulnerable Communities: A Global Commitment to Human Rights and Democracy Introduction: As we witness the grave threats faced by vulnerable and marginalized communities around the world, it is clear that we must reaffirm our dedication to human rights and democratic values. These communities are often targeted by state and non-state actors who seek to solidify power through oppression, bigotry, and institutionalized discrimination. From the ongoing Ukraine conflict to the persecution of LGBTQ+ individuals, elderly populations, persons with disabilities, and racial and ethnic minorities, these issues demand our attention and action. Body: 1. The Threats Faced by Vulnerable Communities Vulnerable communities are exposed to various forms of aggression and discrimination, often exacerbated by poverty and marginalization. State-sponsored persecution may involve discriminatory laws, deprivation of rights and services, harassment by authorities, and suppression of advocacy efforts. Non-state aggression can manifest as hate crimes, adherence to regressive cultural norms, forced displacement, and blocking access to essential services like education and healthcare. 2. The Importance of Protecting Vulnerable Communities Protecting these communities is not only a moral imperative but is also critical to upholding democratic values of equality, human rights, and freedom from persecution based on identity or circumstances of birth. A democratic society cannot truly flourish when its most vulnerable members are oppressed and marginalized. 3. The Role of State and Civil Society Both state and civil society have crucial roles to play in safeguarding vulnerable communities. Governments must enact and enforce robust legal protections, hold violators accountable, and provide affirmative support services. Civil society must work to promote societal education, amplify the voices of marginalized communities, and create inclusive spaces. 4. The Global Context In the context of global events like the Ukraine conflict and the threat to democracy, the importance of protecting vulnerable communities becomes even more apparent. These conflicts often disproportionately impact marginalized groups, exacerbating existing inequalities and further eroding human rights. 5. The Urgency of Action The time for action is now. We must collectively commit to building truly equitable, democratic societies by prioritizing human rights and human dignity. This requires concerted efforts at all levels, from grassroots movements to international cooperation. #RefugeeRights #SocialJustice #DiversityAndInclusion #EqualityForAll #Democracy #Solidarity #HumanDignity #InclusiveSociety #EndDiscrimination #ProtectTheVulnerable

UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights Defenders. Adjunct Professor School of Business , Trinity College Dublin. Founder Front Line Defenders
Inequality comes in many forms and human rights defenders are combatting its different manifestations all over the world. In #Kenya, human rights defenders at the National Gay and Lesbian Human Rights Commission (NGLHRC) are fighting inequalities based on sexual orientation, including through the courts. . On 17 October, I'll present my latest report on Human Rights Defenders & the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at the UN General Assembly. Until then, I am sharing stories of human rights defenders around the world who work tirelessly to advance the #SDGs in their communities & ensure that no one is left behind. #HRDsAndSDGs #UNGA79

This time last year, thousands of trans people and our allies chipped in to found the Trans Justice Project, because they recognised the urgent need for a dedicated organisation to defend our community from the anti-trans lobby. Since then the work we have done to build solidarity in civil society, inoculate the public against disinformation and hate, and to build the power of trans communities has made it much harder for the anti-trans lobby to gain a foothold here in Australia. I am incredibly proud of what we have achieved as a new organisation. In just a few days time we are going to be taking our next big exciting step - bringing together 115 trans advocates and allies from all over the country together to share skills, build relationships, and plan how we win a future where all trans people are safe, celebrated, and free. It couldn't be happening at a better time. In the last year we have seen multiple bills tabled at State and Federal levels aiming to strip away our access to gender-affirming care, campaigns of intimidation by extremist groups, and now a number of anti-trans lobbyists are trying to get elected to state and local councils on anti-equality platforms. This is the same playbook that has decimated trans rights in the US and the UK. The difference is that it hasn’t worked in Australia - yet. We have a plan to push back but we need continued funding to make it possible. To power the Trans Justice Project for the next year, we are aiming to raise $100,000 by June 30. Help us to reach our goal by chipping in, sharing this crowdfunder, and asking others to support our work. We know times are tough so any support you can offer is deeply appreciated. https://lnkd.in/gkADCag8

Happy Juneteenth! Today, we celebrate the end of slavery in the US and reflect on the ongoing fight for racial equality. As we celebrate Juneteenth, it's important to consider how healthcare disparities continue to impact communities of color. We need to keep focusing on addressing these disparities and promoting health equity. #Juneteenth.

➡️ RESOURCE ROUND-UP ⬅️ #Feminist activists defend justice and human rights. They are targeted for who they are and what they do. How can we support and protect them? There are many organizations we are working alongside to defend activists against reprisals. Here are three key resources to bookmark as we build a collective care response to help protect activists. 📍Asia Pacific Forum on Women, Law and Development, “Claiming Rights: Claiming Justice: A Guidebook on Women Human Rights Defenders.” https://lnkd.in/gdhXhCKq 📍Urgent Action Sister Funds, “How Can We Ground Ourselves in Care and Dance Our Revolution?” https://lnkd.in/eWzq-NUG 📍Protection International, "Strengthening the Inclusion, Protection, and Wellbeing of Human Rights Defenders with Disabilities" https://lnkd.in/eGt36nhC 🔗 Find more resources at https://lnkd.in/ehRxX-Yf

The City That Never Sleeps, But Do We See All the Shadows? As a proud New Yorker, I can't help but feel a gnawing dissonance. We celebrate the Statue of Liberty's torch held high, a beacon of opportunity and equality. Yet, the reality for many women paints a different picture. Sexual violence casts a long shadow, statistics revealing 1 in 4 women will experience it in their lifetime. Is this the narrative we accept? Is this the "equality" etched on our iconic lady's tablet? We can't ignore the uncomfortable truth: progress hasn't reached every corner of our state. But here's the thing: silence fuels this shadow. That's why I'm calling for something radical: conversation. Yes, it'll be messy, awkward, and might challenge ingrained beliefs. But uncomfortable conversations are the birth pangs of progress. ️ Here's how you can be part of the change: Start at home: Talk to your sons, brothers, fathers. Challenge harmful stereotypes and empower them to be allies. Listen to survivor stories: Educate yourself on the diverse experiences of women. Amplify their voices, not just statistics. Support local organizations: Donate, volunteer, or attend events hosted by groups like NYSCASA reposted here. Speak up, even if it's shaky: Call out sexist jokes, challenge biased behavior, and hold yourself and others accountable. Don't shy away from debate: Engage respectfully, listen to understand, and bridge the gap with empathy. Remember, change starts with a ripple, not a roar. Every conversation, every action, adds to the wave of progress. Together, we can shine a light on the shadows and rewrite the narrative for women in New York. Let's make the conversation uncomfortable, but necessary. #NoMoreShadows #WomensRightsNY #StartTheConversation #UncomfortableTruth #NewYorkStrong

As we witness the rise of political forces that question basic fundamental rights and freedoms, it is a crucial time for the EC to hold fast to the core values upon which it was founded and to strengthen its infrastructure to be strong for equality and non-discrimination.

🌈🌈Pride Month🌈🌈 It is here, a time to celebrate love, diversity, and equality. I want to use today to say thank you to all those who have contributed to making the world a more accepting and inclusive place. Your efforts in supporting people regardless of their sexuality have truly made a difference. However, amidst the progress, it is crucial to address ongoing challenges. Recent actions by the UK Government have raised concerns by reversing plans for a trans-inclusive ban on conversion practices. This decision goes against global medical and human rights standards, potentially leaving vulnerable individuals unprotected. Let's stand together, advocating for equality and standing against discrimination. Happy Pride Month! Let's continue to embrace diversity and support one another. Stay colorful and proud. #PrideMonth #Equality #Diversity #StandTogether
