What happens when an #Olympic contender gets a financial windfall from an independent source to target success at a future Games? In many ways, #MicheleKang's $4m donation to the #USA Women's #Rugby7s program is not dissimilar to how many countries used #targeted #investment to achieve Olympic and other sporting success. However, it does present an interesting precedent that has the potential to create an arms race in a developing sport that is already struggling for #financial #sustainability. I am on the fence about this, whether it's a case of #FinancialDoping a sport could do without, or if this sort of external #investment is good for #Womens7s. Time will tell but let's just hope it doesn't end like John du Pont's investment in #wrestling 😉 #Rugby #WomensSport #LA28 #SportsInvestment #IOC USA Rugby World Rugby LA28 Olympic & Paralympic Games RugbyDAO

The Big Row is back: Row the distance from Paris to LA, 5 – 8 September. I believe rowing is for everyone; and everyone can row. Moreover, everyone has the right to row. For some, the experience of rowing offers positive life transformation. Love Rowing is a charity that helps to create opportunities for individuals, particularly those from communities currently underrepresented in our sport, to experience rowing. I was fortunate to start rowing at school several decades ago. It has partly shaped who I am today. I am passionate about rowing’s ability to support physical and mental wellbeing and creating a sense of belonging. I joined Love Rowing as a Trustee in 2021 to contribute to its mission and have met some wonderful rowing people in the process. Love Rowing is British Rowing’s charitable foundation aiming to transform lives through the sport, bringing new diverse communities to rowing. We want more people to experience rowing, whether on land or water, with a focus on traditionally underserved groups, including: - Young people from low socioeconomic backgrounds - People with disabilities - Ethnically diverse communities The Big Row 2024 Row together from Paris to Los Angeles. Starting in the final week of the Paralympic Games in Paris, we’ll cover a total distance of 15,241 km, finishing in LA, the host of the next Olympics and Paralympics. This challenge is for everyone, whether you row on land or water, solo or in a team. We aim to raise £60,000 to support inclusive and accessible rowing projects across the UK. This will help get more people involved in rowing, changing lives for the better. How You Can Get Involved: 1. Register: Click the link below to sign up. 2. Pledge Your Distance: Choose how much you want to row. 3. Get Sponsors: Rally support from friends, family, and colleagues. 4. Glasgow Life has awarded thousands of pounds of funding to community sport organisations across the city. Twenty-three groups will receive a share of nearly £60,000, with awards of up to £3,000 each, through the European Capital of Sport (ECOS) Legacy Fund. The fund was open to organisations which put on activities to celebrate Glasgow’s year as the European Capital of Sport in 2023. The shortlisted groups voted for the winners at events in four areas of the city. The ECOS Legacy Fund prioritises organisations that: ✅ Develop opportunities in physical activity and sport for local communities in Glasgow. ✅ Remove barriers to taking part in physical activity and sport for underrepresented groups. ✅Use physical activity and sport to enhance physical and mental wellbeing. Organisations will use the funding for a range of projects, including after-school gymnastics programmes, girls’ football sessions, and basketball festivals for people with additional support needs. Instead of looking at her learning differences as a disadvantage, Olympic Athlete Adelle Tracey sees her Dyscalculia and Dyslexia as the reasons for why she is so successful as an athlete. She states, "As someone who's dyslexic and is dyscalculic it can be really challenging day to day, particularly with the numbers and distances and times and things. It's something that I've come to realise. The reasons why I do sport have very much to do with the fact that I am neurodiverse as well." Dyscalculia is a much less talked about learning difference than Dyslexia involving numbers and difficulty doing mathematics, recognizing numbers or calculations. Although she says she has missed flights and struggled with other challenges, she attributes her success in athletics to her learning differences. She is now an ambassador for the British Dyslexic Association @bdadyslexia, and proves that the very challenges we could perceive as hindering us, could be the very things that push us to greatness in something we never thought we might excel at! #olympians #parisolympics #parisolympics2024 #learningdifferences #discalculia #dyslexiaawareness #dyslexiaeducation #olympicathlete #olympicrunner #dfwnonprofit #dallasnonprofit #northtexas #overcomingthestigma #texasnonprofit

Enabling abundant minds to overcome limiting beliefs and behaviours. Cultivating cultures and leaders to inspire un-common outcomes. Unleashing potential.
🚴♂️ How far would you cycle for £24 Billion? 🚴♂️ #EquityOfOpportunity #DiversityAndInclusion #EconomicGrowth #SocialMobility #Envision The McKinsey Report revealed that fostering diversity and equity in the workforce could add up to £24 billion to the UK’s GDP annually. This isn’t just theory—it’s backed by research. Companies with greater ethnic and racial diversity are 35% more likely to outperform their peers financially. But to build this diverse workforce, we need to start early. That’s why I’m cycling 220+ miles this September to raise £1,500 for Envision, a charity dedicated to empowering young people from disadvantaged backgrounds to gain equity of opportunity and level the playing field. By supporting their education and development, we’re not only transforming lives but also laying the groundwork for a more dynamic, competitive economy. Your support can help make this vision a reality. Donate Below Read more in "Diversity Wins: How Inclusion Matters" by McKinsey & Company. https://lnkd.in/e-MTpYzG
