A new ‘best practice’ guide for housing developers has been published, setting out East Suffolk Council’s aspirations for high quality and well delivered new housing developments. The East Suffolk Developers Charter sets out ambitions in relation to: ▪️ developers’ engagement with communities and stakeholders during the whole development process, ▪️ the design quality of schemes, both in terms of appearance, function and sustainability, and ▪️ the quality of the delivery process for supporting community wellbeing and environmental quality. The Developers Charter provides developers of major residential developments with guidance on engaging positively and meaningfully with local communities and the Council throughout the planning and construction of new homes. https://lnkd.in/e_dMMCgg

You’ve heard of accessibility when it comes to housing, but did you know that housing inclusivity is just as important? Housing Inclusivity: Housing that is safe, affordable, physically accessible, close to activities, amenities, and services and welcoming of all people within diverse and dispersed mixed- income developments, structures, and neighbourhoods. Inclusive housing is safe, affordable, and accessible – but it is also dispersed. Action Required: Adopt and implement this definition of housing inclusivity in the provincial housing strategy and ensure this is applied in all future housing development decisions. The “missing middle” refers to development patterns that fall between the low-density single-family homes and large-scale, high-density projects like 100-unit apartment buildings. The missing middle offers affordable housing opportunities that are predominantly lacking in the market, and can help cities experiencing growth (like Charlottesville) to create medium-density, human-scaled housing. In a recent project, we were able to help a client create an 11-unit apartment building on an unused plot of land they already owned. These apartments provide affordable, convenient, and high-design housing. This eye-opening experience recalibrated our thinking, helping us see the potential in this and so many other underused sites across the city. To learn more about this project and how we’re working with property owners to create more affordable housing opportunities, check out the full story on our website: https://lnkd.in/gBvx9p_q

The official ground-breaking ceremony for Dream's new residential development, #Odenak, took place on November 15 in LeBreton Flats, Ottawa. According to the partners involved, it will be "much more than a residential development" featuring integrated affordable housing, green building practices, and comprehensive social programming. In addition to achieving LEED Gold standards, Odenak will implement the #OnePlanetLiving framework and is targeting an energy reduction of 45 per cent compared to typical buildings that meet the national building code: https://lnkd.in/giDXNdBd

Residents oppose developer's density plan - not news. Residents oppose developer plan for less density = news. There's a stoush playing out in harbourside Sydney over diversity of housing, and the need for accommodation of different types in a community. #propertydevelopment #urbanplanning #elizabethbay #sydney #housingdiversity https://lnkd.in/gaSyw65K

We’re continuing to build new homes in Toronto’s core. Today we announced the beginning of construction at 35 Bellevue Ave. This property, previously a City-owned parking lot, will include approximately 78 rent-geared-to-income homes. The City has selected Kensington Market Community Land Trust in partnership with St Clare’s Multifaith Housing Society as 35 Bellevue Ave.’s operators. These future homes will contribute to the creation of non-market homes, increasing affordable rental housing stock in Toronto. While providing safe, affordable, and independent living spaces, these projects also offer people homes with supports to maintain their health, wellbeing, and housing stability.
