Delivering essential services, while seeking to improve lives and create opportunities for everyone in East Suffolk.

About us

Launched on 1 April 2019, East Suffolk Council is a brand new local authority replacing Suffolk Coastal and Waveney. In January 2017, the two previous councils agreed to create a new, ‘super district’, to deliver services to communities across east Suffolk and now, after 11 years working in partnership the two have become one. The new East Suffolk Council is delivering essential services for the communities of east Suffolk, including housing, refuse collections and planning.

  • The last remaining Air Quality Management Area in East Suffolk has been removed following significant improvements in air quality. The AQMA was established at Stratford St Andrew in 2014 after high levels of nitrogen dioxide (NO2) were detected. NO2 concentrations fell below the national objective level, and have continued to decrease year-on-year, since the 30/50mph speed limit change was moved further south out of the village in 2017. A revocation assessment considered historical monitoring data, projected NO2 concentrations over the next five years, local and national trends in emissions, and local and regional factors that may impact on the AQMA, including Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects (NSIPs) expected to commence within East Suffolk – including Sizewell C, and the East Anglia One (North) and East Anglia Two offshore windfarms. We will continue to monitor air quality in Stratford St Andrew and along the A12 and will be updating the East Suffolk Air Quality Strategy following removal of the last AQMA. https://lnkd.in/eUraNd8V

Progress continues at our £1.9 million Lowestoft Seafront Vision project for East Suffolk Council. At Royal Green, the existing brick walls along the promenade have been removed; a new bouldering facility is being installed; stations are being created for exercise and improved seating and we are excavating for new planting beds and edges. Inspiration for this area has been drawn from the beach, broads, harbour and piers. At Royal Plain we are installing a 7.5m x 4m x 4m water storage tank beneath the esplanade, which will serve the new fountain and mirror pool, one of the most requested features the community wanted to see reinstated. The existing fountain is being removed with the paving being stored to be re-used on site. The Seafront Vision will create an accessible seafront that encourages social interaction and will maintain and grow a vibrant visitor economy. • So much good news for Lowestoft! 😊 East Suffolk Council is committed to unlocking the town’s full potential and we are incredibly proud of the schemes we are delivering, including the new Cultural Quarter and the Jubilee Parade redevelopment, plus the Nexus and Post Office schemes. Having received nearly £25million from the Towns Fund, and secured additional funding, our commitment to Lowestoft is around the £80 million mark. This is a town on the up and we are delighted to be playing such a leading role in its resurgence! https://lnkd.in/e3eyKpVC Paul Wood Chris Bally Kerry Blair Michelle Burdett NICHOLAS KHAN Philip R. • We currently have two opportunities to join Wildlife Wise in East Suffolk Council’s Specialist Services Team as a Wildlife and Visitors Ranger. Wildlife Wise is a new brand and team on the Suffolk Coast. They work with residents and visitors to prevent disturbance and damage to internationally important wildlife and habitats. Wildlife Wise is hosted by East Suffolk Council, also working on behalf of Ipswich Borough Council, Babergh District Council and Mid Suffolk District Council. In this new and exciting role, you will work to protect Suffolk’s internationally important coastal, estuarine and heathland wildlife sites (European sites) from harm that could occur because of increased recreational use of the sites. The successful applicants will provide a Ranger presence at key wildlife sites and undertake in person engagement with communities, recreational users and landowners. They will facilitate projects to deliver the Suffolk Coast Recreational Disturbance Avoidance and Mitigation Strategy, known publicly as Wildlife Wise. This will include engaging with local people and visitors to promote responsible use of the European sites and undertaking practical tasks that will prevent disturbance to wildlife and habitats. • Demolition works have now been completed by Harte Demolition at the former Battery Green multi-storey car park in Lowestoft, making way for a brand-new community hub with studio space for creative businesses, a leisure complex, and a restaurant. Demolition works have also been completed by P J Spillings on the northern wing of the Marina Centre, with the work now focused on the inside of the building, including fitting new windows in the rotunda of the building which connects with the Marina Theatre café. These works are estimated to be complete by March. Morgan Sindall will then begin the main construction works in April. As part of the demolition works at the former Battery Green car park, a new sub-station has been built to house UK Power Networks power supply. Connecting the substation to the power will start on site on Saturday 25 January and this is expected to take two weeks. On Saturday 25 January only, the works will start at 4.30am and whilst we do not expect this work to generate significant noise, there may be some disturbance and we would like to thank you for your patience.
