An opportunity that (surprisingly) still exists in the market: Car owners leave thousands on the table when selling their cars. According to The Lasso, who analyzed over 25,000 of their listings, here’s how much more money consumers made with each incremental offer they received for their car: # of Avg. difference from Offers highest/lowest offer 1 — 2 $3,125 3 $4,740 4 $5,444 5 $6,194 The catch? Most car owners often only get two offers before they sell — here’s how it breaks down: 1. Almost everyone starts with KBB (to get a valuation) 2. The next stop is usually Carvana or Carmax. The surprising part is that Carvana/Carmax rarely beat dealer offers. How rare? <25% of the time, according to The Lasso. Bottom line — To the right dealer, these trade-ins are likely worth a lot more, resulting in a win-win situation for consumers and dealers. Excuse the larger-than-usual graphic, but it shows some really interesting new findings about haggling over used car prices from April’s new Startline Used Car Tracker. The results indicate that almost half of dealers (47%) build a small “haggle margin” into the price of their used cars, with 22% agreeing that customers feel better about their deal if they achieve a small discount. However, 23% of those surveyed would rather give a higher allowance on a part exchange than discount the price and 16% would prefer to build more features into the deal – such as an extended warranty – than to discount. In general terms, the psychology appears to be that customers feel better about the deal if they are able to negotiate some money off or other advantage – although a third of dealers (33%) of dealers also believe that not giving a discount doesn’t usually affect the chances of ultimately making a sale. #Startlinemotorfinance #motorfinance #dealers #dealership #autoretail #motorindustry #StartlineUsedCarTracker

SUVs | 2024 EDITOR’S CHOICE LIST My husband is always forwarding me articles he thinks I should read. This one actually made it into my READ SOON stack — since we’ll probably invest in a new vehicle in the next year or so. Invest is the key word here. Because after housing expenses — transportation & vehicle expenses usually come in second place in a family budget. I personally liked the format that Car and Driver Magazine chose here by doing what they do best — drive, inspect, measure and rank the best of the best. So if you’re in the market for a new ride — it doesn’t hurt to be a little more educated about your choices. Good luck kicking tires! #CarAndDriver #Ratings #Rankings #SUV #Best #EditorChoice

The repetitive fall of Norton Motorcycles is a masterclass in how brand reputation can crumble under the weight of broken promises. Here’s the story: Norton’s Downfall: For decades, Norton Motorcycles had an iconic status. But beneath the surface, it was a story of: 1. Financial Mismanagement: Money issues were a constant, from struggling to compete in the 1970s to pension fund misuse under Stuart Garner. 2. Unmet Promises: Garner-era Norton promised high-performance motorcycles but consistently failed to deliver on time. 3. Quality & Safety Concerns: Defects and production delays chipped away at customer trust, and the refusal to address heritage issues with the V4SS has created concerns over the brand's view on the safety of those riding bikes carrying the brand. Consider this message: the V4SV is safe; come and buy a V4SV, but the V4SS is not our problem. We will not help you fix it, and we advise you not to ride that motorcycle you paid £44,000; oh and by the way we have made the V4SS bike value collapse costing you that investment! 3. Customer Dissatisfaction: Missed deliveries and quality control issues mounted, culminating in their collapse in 2020. 4. The V4SS vs. V4SV era these two models highlight this contrast: - V4SS (Stuart Garner’s Era): Marketed as exclusive and premium but plagued by defects. Initial demand was high, but reality didn’t match the hype. - V4SV (TVS Ownership): Entered the market under new management. While TVS fixed technical issues, the damage from the past couldn’t be undone. Secondary market prices for the V4SV tanked. The Lesson? Broken promises destroy trust, and trust is everything in the luxury market. This leaves V4SS owners on motorcycles that can claim life and thats not a risk any other automotive brand would take. How do you rebuild a brand from that, and is the brand heading down a familiar path? Your thoughts?
