I was saddened but not surprised to read that Asda has scrapped its refillable product stations across their stores. Despite trials in four supermarkets, operational issues and commercial challenges led to the decision. Research highlighted barriers like cost, convenience, cleanliness, and perceived product quality, preventing customer engagement. Even with Asda's 'refill price promise' in 2022, consumer interest remained low. It's promising that Asda is committed to learning and plans new trials. The key takeaway is understanding not just WHAT needs to be done for sustainability, but HOW to implement it effectively at scale.
