Calling all MYO7A Researchers - We want to fund your work! Save Sight Now is a patient-led organization partnered with the Foundation Fighting Blindness (FFB) to identify and fund promising Usher syndrome type 1B research. We raise approximately $400,000 annually, specifically to support research—both gene-agnostic and gene-specific—that will benefit individuals living with Usher syndrome type 1B. As a fiscally sponsored organization of FFB, our funding is restricted to MYO7A research and undergoes the same rigorous review process by their renowned Scientific Advisory Board, following the same grant cycle. This year, we are particularly interested in funding therapeutic development, but also open to other research areas. In previous years, we have focused our funding on animal and cell models, natural history studies, and research aimed at better understanding the basic biology and disease mechanisms of MYO7A. She is the reason. The truth is: no massive business challenge, no own ambitions, nothing could ignite us to use all of our talents and keep investing 200% of our engagement for 24 months, constantly. And she did. It all started on 14th of February, 2022 with Lena’s devastating diagnosis. For 2 years, we have fundraised and invested 430k USD to run a comprehensive set of 8 research projects aiming at drug discovery for PACS2 syndrome. It was THE ride. But the good one. We don’t do it only for Lena anymore. My daughter Lena was diagnosed with ultra-rare neurodevelopmental disease 2 years ago, exactly on 14th February 2022, Valentine's Day. What we do for Lena – aiming to discover a drug for her uncurable genetic disease – is seen by many as an act of unconditional love. And that perfectly resonate with Valentine’s day when it all started. However, I rather prefer seeing it as the opening. A new adventure. Not an easy one. Not the one I dreamed of. But one which is surprisingly fulfilling.  After 2 years of a crazy ride to advance science for PACS2 syndrome, we just want more. To contribute further to progress for PACS2, for other ultrarare diseases and to further build amazing community supporting our mission to change part of the rare diseases' world.
