Today is International Day of the Girl. My daughter Orla is 11 years old and she is my why. She loves basketball, Taylor Swift and tik tok dances. Her superpower is knowing how to make friends and include everyone. She’s worried about starting high school and what to wear for graduation. She makes me laugh and inspires me to work hard to create a more equal world for all. We can’t wait 134 years for gender equality! But today is a day to talk not about the problems, but how we fix them. 💫 Did you know that every $1 invested in girls’ education generates $2.80 in return? If we kept all girls in school, it would mean billions in GDP for countries trying to escape poverty. 💫 Did you know that when girls are involved in drafting peace agreements, they last longer? 💫 Or that for every year a girl stays in school, her country’s climate resilience improves? The UN calls the 10-year-old girl the single best investment we can make. She’s the closest thing to a silver bullet in tackling the wicked problems in the world. But despite all of this, girls are still largely ignored. They slip through the cracks of programs designed for adult women, or those targeted at all children. Their unique needs and unique potential are invisible in policies, in funding and in society. But today, on International Day of the Girl, we get to change that story, and celebrate everything girls can achieve when they’re not held back. We’re celebrating the girls dreaming and demanding a better future for all of us. It’s also our Giving Day. If you can, please donate to Plan International Australia to help keep girls in school, fight child marriage, prevent violence and back young women entrepreneurs. It’s the best investment you can make. Donate at https://lnkd.in/g69CtCag #InternationalDayOfTheGirl #IDG2024

Educating a girl or women goes beyond individual learning; it's an investment in future generations as she takes on vital roles as a wife and a mother. One of the most inspiring (and my favourite) aspects of working at Google is the company's commitment to meaningful societal contributions at scale, demonstrated through its actions. The annual Holiday Giving Campaign is back, and Google just gave me a generous $SGD550(!) in credits to donate to an eligible organization of my choice, (and it'll even match up to $10K of my donations.) This year, I'm donating to 'The Asia Foundation,' dedicated to enhancing APAC's economic growth, expanding opportunities, and empowering individuals, with a focus on women's empowerment and gender equality. Supporting girls' education empowers them to lead in their families, communities, and the nation, catalyzing long-lasting economic, social, and health benefits. A donation of $550SGD can enable a girl in Vietnam to pursue an education, covering a year's tuition, books, educational materials, uniforms, and even a bicycle if needed. It also provides customized soft skills training, networking, and mentoring to ensure that the student thrives in her studies. I firmly hold the belief that providing education to a girl profoundly changes her life and positively impacts those in her surroundings and community. Speaker | Youth Advocate | Author | Award-Winning Mentor | Social Impact Founder | Communications Professional
Today we observe International Day of the Girl and this year's theme is all about celebrating "Girls' Vision for the Future." As we reflect on the challenges and dreams of young people worldwide, it’s clear that their future depends on our advocacy, action, and support. Girls and young women deserve the right to education and access to opportunities that pave the way for their success. Yet, too many continue to face barriers that limit their potential. 🔑 What can we do? Support legislation that protects girls' rights. Create platforms for girls to share their voices, ideas, and dreams. Start girl-powered initiatives that equip them with tools for leadership and confidence. Together we can make a difference. #DayoftheGirl #Empoweringgirls #Mentoring #Nonprofit #SocialImpact #Empoweredwomen #genderequity

🇵🇰🇩🇰 19 | Voice on Gen Z, Education, Policy & Startups | Youth Advisory Board Plan International Denmark | Youth Council United States Embassy Copenhagen
How the Gen Z is leading The Future of Non-Profit and its Entrepreneurial and Empowering! 2 weeks ago I was pleased to announce that I had been selected as the newest member of PlanBørnefonden Denmark Youth Advisory Board. At the onboarding meeting that lasted 2 hours, I got an insight into the mission, vision, strategy and core values. The Strategy: Girls Driving Impact for Tomorrow! We at plan are on a mission to secure children and the youths right and to create equal opportunities no matter their gender. We want to be the organisation, that unites Danes in the fight for vulnerable girls and young girls and women equality. Did you know that for every year a girl attends school her lifetime income increases by 12%. We know for a fact that educated girls don’t just provide for their family but contributes to the economy as well. That’s why Plan focuses on their education, but employment and business opportunities as well. We want the kids and youth to be self reliant over the long term. Which is one of our main goals: We want to deliver a NEXT GENERATION SPONSOPSHIP, by developing products that attracts the GEN Z. I am therefore honored to be a part of such a modern and new-gen organisation and looking forward to achieve new height and set new examples for the whole Non-Profit industries. #genz #girlpower #education #nonprofit #empowerment #entrepreneurship

At Piikup, our commitment to sustainability goes hand in hand with our dedication to empower and strengthen communities. As we strive to expand the green jobs sector, we recognize the unique challenges faced by multi groups and are actively working towards solutions that ensure everyone has the opportunity to participate in this vital industry especially those Black and LGBTQ+ people who aren't visible in the space. People that are often overlooked lack access to education and training: Many Black adults and youth face barriers in accessing the necessary education and training for green jobs. This lack of access shows up with in school youth and adults as limited access to STEM programs and sustainable technologies remain an issue. Education and Training Programs uplift as we are partnering with community organizations to create accessible training programs focused on green technologies and sustainability practices. We aim to reduce economic barriers and provide more opportunities for Black individuals to pursue careers in the green sector. We are committed to breaking down barriers and fostering an inclusive environment where everyone can thrive. Join us in this mission to make the green industry a place of opportunity and growth for all by donating to Piikup via our fiscal sponsor https://lnkd.in/gz4PUkCQ by writing Piikup GREEN JOBS in the subject. #GreenJobs #Sustainability #DiversityAndInclusion #InclusiveEmployment #BlackProfessionals #EcoFriendly #CommunityImpact #SustainableFuture

This #IWD2024, let’s rewrite the future, one girl at a time. A famous African proverb goes as follows: if you educate a man, you educate an individual. But, if you educate a woman, you educate a nation. Several studies have proved that educating women has a ripple effect in empowering their community and their future generations. A child whose mother is educated is 2 times more likely to be educated themselves. They see education as an investment, not a cost. They are able to advance not just their own socio-economic standing, but also that of their future generations. At SRI, we believe the same. With 48% of our children who get into JNV schools and 66% of our youth fellows who become teachers, we are committed to achieving gender equity in education. We are commi: tted to supporting not just the children of today, but also the children of tomorrow. Women’s possibilities and potential have been restricted by historical and cultural conventions that have frequently placed them in subordinate situations, despite their continuing accomplishments witnessed in society. Acknowledging women's rights is recognizing that all people, regardless of gender, should have equal access to opportunities for employment, education, and personal development. By recognizing the shortcomings of our own narratives when it comes to women’s rights, we can take the first steps towards contributing to equality. Take your first steps by donating to the Casey Foundation Africa at https://lnkd.in/ged3-uUE.

We have made great strides towards gender equality since #InternationalWomensDay was first established in 1910 by Clara Zetkin and Rosa Luxemberg. In the West, women’s labour force participation has never been higher, and women are getting onto corporate boards at greater speeds and in greater numbers. In January, 42% of FTSE100 and FTSE250 directorships were held by women. Yet, our journey towards equality is far from over. Despite decades of equal pay laws, women still earn less than men, with more than 3 out of 4 UK companies paying their male staff more. The troubling rollback of reproductive rights, including the right to abortion, also casts a shadow over our advancements. In many parts of the developing world, especially where religious extremism, regional conflicts, and deep-seated prejudice thrive, the situation for women and girls is even darker. The prevalence of violence against women, particularly in armed conflicts where sexual violence is weaponised, remains a critical human rights violation. Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) and Early Childhood Marriage (ECM) also continues to affect countless girls. Gender parity, especially in developing economies, demands our urgent attention. Together, we can continue the fight for justice, dignity, and equality.
