For the first time since 2019, EOCF staff and their families – including fur babies - gathered on a Saturday at Vancouver Lake Park to recognize and celebrate each other for the incredible work we do!
It was a FUN day filled with delicious food from Anahi's Tamales, photo booth, games including cornhole courtesy of iQ Credit Union and makers space courtesy of the Columbia Play Project . A special THANK YOU to iQ Credit Union for their generous sponsorship of this event, the Columbia Play Project, and the local business community for their generous donations to our staff raffle!

Crisis, such as the tragic fires in and around Ruidoso, reveal the character of people and businesses. Such as the extreme leadership of MATI’s Godfrey Enjady working tirelessly with friends, such as PVT’s James Meyers, to restore vital communications within and outside of their own service areas. Or the local businesses working together to meet the needs of those impacted. Local businesses matter and will be there when needed.
I so appreciate the efforts of PVT’s employees organizing this effort to bring supplies to those in need. Chris & Tabitha Davis , Cassie Florez , Daniel Rodriguez, SHRM-CP and Ross Horner.
PVT would like to thank people in our communities for dropping off donations, and special thanks to Oasis Christian Fellowship in Carlsbad. Last night, PVT employees delivered the first truckload to the Mescalero Community Center. Two more truckloads to follow.
No student should have to miss assignments and risk falling behind in school because they don’t have reliable Internet access at home.
Last year, Matthew Gilbert Middle School in Jacksonville, Florida, extended its public school network into the community. Now, students can get free Internet right at home via a tower on the school’s campus.
With Truist, we helped fund this work through the EPIC grant. Donate to support more work like this. https://lnkd.in/eajF5Yr2
In a class offered by the Indiana University Lilly Family School of Philanthropy students gain real-world experience by giving away $10,000 in grant funding. In the hands-on course “Learning by Giving”, students learn and implement the process of making charitable grants and giving wisely, from deciding which community issues to address and writing requests for grant proposals to conducting site visits at nonprofits, evaluating applications, and deciding where to award real money. As you pull out your college gear for March Madness, how about helping our juniors forge their own college paths. It’s quick and easy and no risk of a broken bracket. Just follow the link below.
We could use your help supporting an #AlternativeSpringBreak of the academic variety. We are sending four outstanding Juniors on an #HBCU college trip over #SpringBreak and are trying to raise $4000 to help defray the cost of the trip. Students will spend 8 days visiting HBCU schools located in the midwest, east coast and southern regions of the country. Your donation today will make this trip a reality for these students: https://lnkd.in/gvyPVn2E
I promise I'll post about my actual job (we have a new video to share about Mainframe mod and GenAI!) but as summer winds to a close I wanted to share a charity opportunity related to Golf:
https://lnkd.in/g2i6mqfG
Ultimately this is about helping kids lead healthier lives and is related to the amazing work that Jack and Barbara Nicklaus have done across the world to help kids heal and thrive with their Play Yellow initiative.
My Wife Ashley and her colleague Kelli are going to play 72 holes of golf in one day and they are going to make it rain birdies. If you have a bit of a gambling mindset, you can make a donation based on the number of birdies they're going to make. You can also make an up-front donation. Note that this is focused on Colorado - ask your local pro if something is happening near you!
Why is this on LinkedIn? Two reasons - first - this is really the only social media I do. I do so little I don't know if this actually counts as social media.
Second - having married a professional golfer I've learned a lot about golf that has surprised me. Watching Ashley and her friends and colleagues navigate a male-dominated world (5% of PGA professionals are women. 5%!) is in many ways a clearer lens to the same challenges we see in technology. The backlash we've seen in some pockets of the world against fostering inclusion - one person's opinion here - ignores the reality that a diversity of thought and opinion makes teams better. Here's a golf example - when you're taking a golf lesson, you are incredibly vulnerable and it can be intimidating - no single approach works for everyone. Finding a coach that resonates with you (and this can be especially hard for women coming to the game, or children wanting to learn) is critical to your experience. There is not a long line to draw between this phenomenon and what we see in technology as leaders, mentors and peers.
Also, golf is fundamentally a game of integrity - I've seen remarkable examples of leadership and integrity on the course (look up "Sahith Theegala penalty" for an unbelievable example recently) and again it reminds me of all the things we try to do as leaders and professionals in business. I've always liked the phrase "integrity is what happens when no one is looking" and if golf can help me and others to model that, there's more to the game than I thought.
Let me close by saying - for those in the Northern Hemisphere - enjoy the last gasps of summer, whatever brings you outside to do so!
On Tuesday, September 24th, I will be participating in the inaugural Colorado PGA Birdie Bash fundraiser event to raise funds for PGA REACH Colorado and Children's Hospital Colorado. I, alongside other Colorado PGA Professionals, will play 72 holes of golf in one day at The Ranch Country Club in an attempt to make as many birdies as possible! Please consider making a pledge per birdie to support these impactful organizations. YOUR GIFT MATTERS and will help us reach our goal of raising $110,000! Young carers on average missed 23 days of school in 2022-23, compared to 14 days missed by young people who are not young carers. A new report by Carers Trust shows the alarming impact of caring on young carers’ education and opportunities.
Which is why we at The Honeypot Children's Charity are committed to supporting schools and their young carers with our wrap round services.

Access to justice is essential for individuals and society at large. Law influences many aspects of social life and recent research shows that 2 in 3 people have faced a legal issue in the past four years.
The most common issues? Employment, finance, welfare and benefits (28%), wills, trusts, probate (26%), consumer problems (26%), and property-related matters (25%). These often arise during major life events.
Despite this, many do not seek legal help due to a lack of awareness of their legal rights, difficulty navigating the legal system, financial constraints, uncertainty about where to find legal advice, physical inaccessibility, or a lack of confidence that they will receive help from someone who understands their background and experiences. Research highlights the negative impact unresolved legal issues can have on our physical and mental health.
In the last quarter, the ARU Law Clinic provided free legal advice to over 200 clients on family, employment, immigration, personal injury, and medical negligence issues. In times of economic, political, social and technological change, access to legal help is more important than ever.
Please support the The Access to Justice Foundation to help fund free legal advice in communities that need it most.

New guidelines from the Canada Revenue Agency make it possible to directly fund non-qualified donees, such as nonprofit organizations that are not registered charities.
This is great news, in particular for funders who want to support work by and for communities facing systemic barriers in Canada - Black initiatives, Indigenous initiatives, grassroots movements, new organizations that haven't yet obtained charitable status, and many others.
Many funders wonder if they need to change their practices in order to fund NQDs. There is also a notion that supporting NQDs comes with enhanced risk. This has not been our experience at the McConnell Foundation. This Future of Good piece explores the benefits of supporting NQDs and discusses the toolkit we created with the Fondation Lucie et André Chagnon, Inspirit Foundation, and the Laidlaw Foundation to help funders support NQDs.
