📣 Today I called on operational stakeholders to reinforce efforts to address the rising challenges in the air traffic network! Summer 2024 is proving particularly challenging due to strong ✈ traffic growth and network saturation combined with ⛈ adverse weather ⛈. In fact, traffic is up between 10% and 20% compared to 2019 in large parts of European airspace - the highest 📈 growth ever in terms of air traffic in Europe. With 💡 safety always our top priority 💡, it is even more crucial that everyone is on board and we call on all operational stakeholders to deliver the capacity and flexibility that they have committed to. As an immediate action all operational stakeholders should prioritize getting the first flight of the day off the ground on time, which will help to prevent knock-on delays. As #aviation will continue to grow into the summer and at an unprecedented speed in the years to come, it is absolutely essential to reinforce the network centric approach and the partnership among all operational stakeholders and with the EUROCONTROL Network Manager as the only solution to allow a sustainable growth. 👉 Read more here: https://lnkd.in/eRDJRHqC

Navigating the intricate network of regulations and classifications within the EU airspace poses a challenge. 🌍🛩 How can we effectively maneuver through it? #EU Airspace, our designated region of the atmosphere, is managed by #EASA and national authorities. The scope of governance includes the following key points:   - Classes A to G define airspace types and control levels, which are harmonized by #ICAO. - The Single European Sky initiative streamlines air traffic management. - Consistent rules and regulations contribute to the establishment of safe and efficient skies.   All aircraft, including #eVTOLs, are required to adhere to general aviation rules. However, the specific regulations for these aircraft still remain uncertain. To gain some insight, we can consider the principles that helicopters currently follow:   - Flexibility: they can operate in various classes, from Class G (uncontrolled) to controlled airspace. - Rules: comply with altitude, speed limits, and ATC instructions. - Low-level flights: for sightseeing, surveillance, and emergencies. - International Ops: cross-border flights require coordination and approvals.   The airspace is meticulously managed and subjected to ongoing coordination, evolution, and regulatory updates to enhance safety, efficiency, and environmental sustainability, thereby maintaining the highest standards.    #Aviation #AVgeek

Aviation Reflections: Air traffic over the sky of ✈️Africa, the Middle East, and Europe at the moment

#EuropeForAviation is back at Airspace World ! It has been great to see so many close partners today in Geneva and discuss how the EUROCONTROL Network Manager can be #RaisingTheBar to support air traffic operations in the Network. Special thanks to Martin Rolfe of NATS, Arndt Schoenemann Schoenemann from DFS Deutsche Flugsicherung GmbH and Andriy Yarmak from Ukrainian State Air Traffic Service Enterprise for the open conversations!   As we prepare for ✈ peak traffic ✈ this summer it is once again clear that all #aviation actors in Europe need to work together in a disciplined way to keep the aviation network manageable. Concretely, I encourage my fellow aviation colleagues to remind their teams that we need to focus on:

📣 Delivering agreed capacities
⌚ Realistic schedules, including turnaround times
🥇 Prioritising first rotation
✈ Disciplined flight plan execution As ⛈ 🌬 adverse weather was such a significant contributor to delay in 2023, at EUROCONTROL we are working with our aviation partners on a cross border network forecast approach and improve common weather procedures to mitigate the impact on traffic.   I had the chance today to speak to many of our partners for iNM – our integrated Network Management programme which will enable EUROCONTROL NM to smoothly handle 13.8 m flights by 2030. Over the past months our iNM team together with iNM partners have worked hard together, establishing a solid foundation for the future of our Digital Products, with a first set coming on our new digital platform later this year. Let’s continue the great cooperation – upwards and onwards! #AirspaceWorld #AirTrafficManagement #NetworkManagement #PreparingForSummer
