🌟Book of the Week 🌟 Happy Monday! As we begin this new week, it's a great time to pause, reflect, and think about how we can continue learning, growing, and holding ourselves accountable in the spaces we move through. This week, I'm revisiting a powerful book that I think you'll really appreciate: I'm Still Here: Black Dignity in a World Made for Whiteness by Austin Channing Brown. If you haven’t read it yet, I highly recommend you consider diving in with me. Austin Channing Brown shares her journey as a Black woman navigating predominantly white spaces. Her reflections are honest and true to her experience, pushing us to look honestly at issues of racism, privilege, and the need for true allyship. But more than just storytelling, she calls for real systemic change, inviting us all to engage in meaningful conversations and personal reflection. Reading this again reminds me to check in with myself—how am I creating space for others? How do I ensure that accountability and equity are at the heart of my actions? It’s a reminder that we all have a part to play in building a more just and inclusive world. Does anyone remember to iconic Knicks jingle, "Go New York, go New York, go"? It might be an east coast thing. Did you know that it was Sara Blakely's (founder of Spanx) husband who created that jingle? Fun fact. I can't stop singing in my head, "Go Lesly, go Lesly, go!" If you know Lesly Cardec I bet you'll join me in that adaptation. Lesly is ridiculously good at what she does because of who she is as a person. Her fuel is #relationships and #people. Her deep sense of care is what sets her apart and she uses that care to really #listen, understand, and make moves in service of her clients. I'm so elated for my colleague and friend to be nominated and I would LOVE to see her awarded, because she works so hard in what she does and recognitions like this can also be great fuel 🔥. Congratulations to longtime friend and colleague, Barry Oshry, on the publication the 2nd Edition of his powerful work, Conversations with the "Other." In my mind, Barry is one of the living geniuses working in the area of power and intergroup dynamics in organizations. Here is a description of the work and how to obtain it. This is a gem for anyone working across various types of divides. It is especially important at a time, like now, when there is a need to get clearer on exactly we are trying to accomplish when we work on issues that we label with words such as diversity, equity, inclusion, anti-racism, power-sharing, economic justice, etc. Barry's clear thinking helps us get beyond the divisive labels, above the politics, and down to the actual kind of world that we are all trying to create.

How are you celebrating Black Excellence this month? Happy Black History Month! This month, I plan on using my social media platforms to spotlight some important Black authors, speakers, and podcast hosts. From articles to novels to podcasts, there are an infinite number of Black storytellers out there who need to be celebrated today, this month, and every day. I understand that the issue is far more complex than reading a few books on anti-racism, sharing quotes from Black leaders on social, and donating to grassroots organizations and charities to support BIPOC. While these acts are a start, they sometimes do not equate to long-term impact. I hope that this Black History Month, we will all be more conscientious about the content we engage with and our conversations, especially if these actions do not align with our everyday actions. The impact and influence of Black history, Black culture, and Black people transcend one month, and it's important to honour and acknowledge this beyond times of turmoil and beyond February. A few years ago, I had the immense pleasure of interviewing Khalilah Lyons, MHRIR, PHR, HCS, SWP for my podcast. She's a fantastic DEI leader, co-founder of Candidly Connecting, LLC and creator of The B List, a simple, anytime, anywhere blueprint for those ready to navigate day-to-day experiences to live with full purpose, plenty, and personal freedom. With decades of experience in the corporate world, she has devoted herself to the advocacy of the underrepresented and elevating the untapped talent in women. Khalilah's mission is to curate beautifully messy stories that shift perspective, create empathy and ignite change by sharing the nuanced experiences of people we wouldn't normally connect with. What fuels my passion for helping Black and Brown women get ahead in the workplace? Because I know what it's like. No matter how hard I tried, I couldn't get ahead. Repeatedly, I was told that I would never be a Vice President.  BUT... When I discovered that I had control over my own journey despite the sexual harassment, discrimination, and microaggressions I encountered, everything changed. Professional identity crisis - wow, what a story Loren Rosario - Maldonado, PCC ! Thank you for sharing. I myself slowly realized I’ve become an identity mess after exiting my tech startup: a few long years of self-digging, reading books, trying to find a “normal job at the well-established company”, followed by a total fiasco of not landing even the smallest one (to my huge surprise, after all I’ve been through in our venture!). And I finally made a bold choice to continue being a TECH STARTUP PUSHER - the one who is not nessesarily full of business ideas, but who is full of bravery, resilience, and ideas on how to figure things out for the tasks in place. Early-stage tech startups are extremely hard to push. Not many investors, clients or professionals want to deal with you. All the founders do for a long while is spinning their wheels trying to find some new ways to stay alive for a little longer, and a little longer, and a little longer, until some miracle happens. I tried to stay away from an idea of joining another startup, but it seems to be the only thing that makes me Me. P.S. What are you talking about, your head tilting is adorable 🙃 !
