International Energy News - Brazil 🌎 Valaris Limited, also known as Valaris or the Company, has officially announced a significant contract win for its drillship VALARIS DS-4. 🛢 The contract, spanning 1,064 days, was secured with Petrobras for operations off the coast of Brazil. This deal was finalized following a competitive tender process. This agreement's total value, including mobilization fees and additional services, is estimated to be around $519 million. The commencement of this contract is slated for the latter part of the fourth quarter of 2024. This follows the conclusion of VALARIS DS-4's existing contract with Petrobras, expected to end in September 2024. Post-completion of the current contract, the drillship will undergo a 90-day out-of-service period for customer-required capital upgrades before the start of the new contract. The significance of this contract in demonstrating Valaris' operational leverage, noting the shift in the drillship's day rate from the low $200,000s to an effective day rate in the high $400,000s, marking a substantial increase in earnings and cash flow for Valaris. Kosmos Energy’s first quarter results announced this morning show an active start to the year. We’ve brought four new wells online at the Jubilee field in Ghana, and first oil at Winterfell in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico is expected shortly. These are both important milestones for the company as we target 50% production growth by the end of the year from a mid-2022 baseline. We’ve also seen significant progress at Tortue Phase 1 with the FLNG vessel arriving on location, completion of the deepwater pipelay, and the FPSO now in transit to the project site. Hookup and commissioning of the FPSO remain on the critical path to first gas, which is expected in the third quarter of 2024. The rest of the year will be busy, with catalysts across each of our business units: Ghana, Equatorial Guinea, the U.S. Gulf of Mexico, and Mauritania and Senegal. U.S.-headquartered energy giant ExxonMobil has made another oil discovery at the Stabroek block, representing the fourth discovery offshore Guyana for this year. Guyana’s Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) reported that the Lancetfish-2 appraisal well had resulted in a “significant discovery”. The Lancetfish-2 discovery in the Liza Petroleum Production License area has unveiled an estimated 20 meters of hydrocarbon-bearing reservoir, along with approximately 81 meters of additional hydrocarbon-bearing sandstone, MNR said. The reservoir is set to undergo a comprehensive appraisal process, said to align with the ongoing appraisal activities for other discoveries in the region. This marks the fourth offshore discovery in Guyana for 2023 and brings the total number of discoveries from 2015 to date to a total of 46. Earlier discoveries made this year include Fangtooth SE-1 and Lancetfish-1 in the Stabroek block, as well as the Wei-1 discovery in the Corentyne block.
