Great to have a constructive conversation with the Cabinet Secretary for Housing and Local Government Jayne Bryant, alongside Eleanor Bateman and Steven Bletsoe on #housing issues in Wales. The Cabinet Secretary was reminded about the huge supply and demand imbalance that exists in Wales - exemplified by Wrexham which has 54 #renters chasing every available home to rent. I took great comfort in the Cabinet Secretary reiterating her support of the #PRS and responsible #landlords and it being an important part of the housing provision across the UK. The recent Victorian Auditor-General's Office (VAGO) report shows we need clear goals and better site selection for social housing in high-demand areas like Boroondara. Unfortunately, funding issues have deferred 15 crucial projects. We must prioritize the redevelopment and reaching of full occupancy of the public and social housing units across Ashburton. Currently public housing in Ashburton is between 50-70% unoccupied and in a dreadful condition due to neglect by Homes Victoria (See image below) To create better quality public and social housing we should be demanding that existing units are brought up to standard and fully occupied by those who need a home!! 💪🌟 The Council can play a vital role in supporting the provision of public housing, tackling vacant properties and ensuring Homes Victoria maintains that properties its owns.
