There is a lot of focus at the moment on regenerative agriculture, which is one great solution to build a healthier more sustainable #FoodSystem. 🌱 However, #RegenerativeAgriculture is focused on what farmers do, and farmers do not produce food in isolation. 🚜 Many complex interdependencies and relationships impact how our food is produced, transported, processed, packaged, and consumed. Rather than simply regenerative agriculture, we should be interested in regenerative production, regenerative distribution, regenerative processing, regenerative retail, and regenerative consumption. And the way they work together. 🔄 When we frame the solution as regenerative ‘agriculture’, we are putting the entire responsibility on farmers. 🌾 This then means the burden of finance, of risk, of education and of transformation is focused at farm level and not shared across the value chain. 🌍 How can we expect adoption at scale if we do not look at this from a #RegenerativeFoodSystems perspective? 🤔 Let’s rethink our whole #FoodIndustry. Let’s create Regenerative Food Systems. #ImprovingFoodTogether 🌱

Shifting from just focusing on regenerative farming to thinking about the whole food system makes a lot of sense. Right now, we're asking farmers to do all the heavy lifting for sustainability. But everyone involved in getting food from the farm to our plates needs to pitch in. This means looking at how food is grown, moved, processed, sold, and eaten. By spreading the responsibility, we can make a bigger, better change. Let's work together to improve every part of the food system, making it healthier for our planet, not just the farming aspect.

Great point, EIT Food! Recognizing the interdependency and complexity of dynamics within our food system is crucial. At Projeto GrowLIFE, we understand that a systemic approach is essential to achieving a truly sustainable and fair food system. Over the course of five years, we're committed to collaborating with farmers, policymakers, chefs, consumers and other key actors to address these intricacies. Our focus will be on establishing sustainable production methods, strengthening local supply chains, and promoting responsible consumption habits in Portugal. Engaging every stakeholder along this journey is paramount to building a more resilient and fair food system for all.

Absolutely, this shift needs to be co-created by all obvious and not so obvious stakeholders alike. Whether we work in this field or not we all carry the responsibility of allowing regenerative foods systems to emerge. Rather than one answer or approach, I believe there are many different ways to achieve resilient food systems via regenerative practices. In particular this also includes the mindset shift necessary to set off and succeed, as well as a courageous economic rethinking. In the MSc for Preneurship for Regenerative Food Systems we’ve created a container for change makers to emerge and find their unique way as preneurs to contribute to regenerative food systems. Great if EIT is supporting Regen Ag! And agree on the need for a systems approach, not putting the burden just on the farmers. We at Amfora are busy helping create the regenerative distribution and marketing part of the emerging regen food system, which is probably the most critical; if farmers can't be paid for positive externalities by selling the food they make, we're going to have to rely on policy and government. And that's messy.

Insight into evolving from a singular focus on regenerative agriculture to a more holistic approach encompassing the entire food value chain is eye-opening. Highlighting the intricate web of interdependencies that sustain our food system underscores a critical point: sustainable transformation requires collective action, not just at the farm level but across all sectors involved in food production, distribution, and consumption. This reframing invites a much-needed conversation on how each component of the food system can contribute towards regenerative practices, fostering a more resilient and equitable food future for all. Thank you for broadening the discourse and advocating for shared responsibility in shaping regenerative food systems.

Fully agree with this "and farmers do not produce food in isolation. 🚜 Many complex interdependencies and relationships impact how our food is produced, transported, processed, packaged, and consumed." And to improve the farmers and "food" sustainability we need to measure it right? If we do not measure it it would become a mix of marketing, good intentions, and greenwashing. then... www.boostainability.com is our contribution to a better farming, a better food production system Together, all of us involved in the food ecosystem can help to build a better future.

Regenerative is a very trendy concept, it’s been a moment since several reports show that the way to transform food system should be based on agroecology principles and values more inclusive then the regenerative concept
