Let’s go February! I’m in the minority when I say I wasn’t glad to see the back of January. It was a pretty amazing month! - Ran my first transformative 4-week health and wellbeing breathwork course at Discovery Park 😮💨 - Launched my first Wim Hof Fundamentals workshop of 2024 - just 2 spaces available for this Sunday! 🧊 - Booked the stunning Chapel House Estate in Ramsgate for my Q1 events 🏠 - Secured 2 bookings on my Leadership Strategy and Wellness Day on 7th March, with 2 additional spots reserved. 🧘♀️ - Had approval to facilitate an event for up to 50 HR professionals in May, and speak at an event with up to 200 delegates 👏🏻 - Had a feature on my business published in the local news 📰 - Started sharing more insights, tips and events with my lovely mailing list subscribers ✍️ and upped my game on social media platforms 🎥 - Got back into running after totally losing my mojo with it last year, and helped my youngest train to represent Thanet in the Kent cross country event 🏃♀️ 🏃♂️ - Joined Mental Health Swims Margate, took 2 sea dips and numerous plunges in my cold tub 🥶 I’m going into February feeling energised and positive about the year ahead. Denis is a specialist advisor and part-time academic working in the corporate and not-for-profit sectors. His area of specialist expertise is behavioural governance. His ground-breaking PhD research identified that while compliance and regulation are important, it is the combination of behavioural characteristics and attributes existing within and between the board and executive, operating as a ‘Third Team’, which allows the board to influence the executive, who in turn impacts organisational performance. His work with boards is highly regarded, and he sees himself working frequently, both locally and internationally, with government, corporate, and not-for-profit organisations. I’ve spent the majority of this week in Chicago to attend the Collaborative Conference hosted by Classy. My partner in the week’s shenanigans was Christen Barron, who has just completed one year in her role as Manager of Terry Scholar Engagement for The Terry Foundation. This is our second conference together as a “team within the team” at the Foundation, and I’ve spent the day reflecting on some of the wisdom shared this week. What I’m thinking about most: Complex plans are not necessarily complicated plans. Don't be more committed to being right than to getting it right. Culture is passed down through stories. What stories does your organization tell? It’s not always best to just try and keep things “In the Green.” Are you challenging yourself and your team in a healthy way or just trying hit the same target you’ve hit before? Micro moments can have an outsized impact. Ask yourself how you are making others FEEL. Are you planning a process or an EXPERIENCE? As leaders, we should strive to hold opposites in tension rather than choosing one side or the other. When we lean into the space between opposing states, what can we, and those we lead, become? Personally, I would like to lean into the tension between: ** being results-focused AND purpose-driven ** having expectations AND extending grace (especially inwardly) ** caring for others AND caring for myself (and authentically modeling the effort) ******* Are we making the late spring conference trip an annual thing, Christen Barron? This initiative stands out not only for its commitment to transparency but also for its dedication to authenticity in stakeholder engagement. The focus was on the Labour Market Observatory which will be designed to analyse and report on employment trends, providing valuable insights into workforce dynamics, skills gaps, and economic conditions to inform policy-making, support educational and business planning, and enhance job matching, regional development and more. 🟣Harnessing Diversity for Informed Decision-Making The gathering brought together an eclectic mix of voices from businesses, policymakers, skills providers, charities, and education sectors. Such a diverse group ensures that every angle is considered, highlighting the importance of multiple perspectives in shaping impactful strategies. 🟣 The Power of Conscious Leadership What truly sets this project apart is its embodiment of conscious leadership. This approach goes beyond mere participation; it involves actively listening and integrating stakeholder insights to shape outcomes that are not only effective but also inclusive. The dynamic interactions during the workshop—filled with probing questions and lively discussions—underscored the effectiveness of this leadership style. 🟣 Technological Integration for Immediate Results A remarkable feat of the event was the real-time creation of a detailed 40-page report, facilitated by Professor Jonathan Wallace his colleague. This rapid turnaround, from discussion to documentation, exemplifies how technology, when used wisely, can revolutionise our workflow and decision-making processes. 🟣A Model for Future Endeavours The event was not just about discussion; it was a demonstration of leadership in action. The ability to engage a room full of diverse stakeholders and immediately turn their input into actionable outcomes is something all organisations should aspire to. The proactive use of technology and inclusive dialogue paves the way for future projects that are as efficient as they are enlightening. It was particularly heartening to see some familiar faces at the event, reinforcing the strong community ties and ongoing collaboration that make these initiatives so impactful. This familiarity among participants not only enriches the dialogue but also strengthens the network of support essential for the sustained success of such projects.
