See how our BDDC Grant is helping local businesses thrive. Reviving Downtown, One Business at a Time. "Brandon Downtown Development Corp’s support through this grant process was incredible. From start to finish they helped me apply for the grant, identify eligible expenses and offered to help find business to complete my downtown office renovation. With the grant funds we received, we were able to renovate the interior of our business including a new bathroom, painted walls and new flooring throughout the building. The rent rebate will support our rental cost for six months, allowing a small business like us to thrive in our first year of business. We cannot say enough good things about the experience dealing with BDDC and the opportunity to receive grant funds through the BDRIP program." This incentive plays a significant role in the revitalization of Downtown Brandon bringing more businesses to the heart of our city and fostering a thriving community. . . #BrandonOpportunities #BrandonCommunity #BDDC #manitoba #westman #downtown #development #investment #brandondowntown #brandonmb #bdnmb #investlocal #DowntownBrandon #CommunityRevitalization #grant #growth #business

How I’m going to spend £27.5 million 👇 One of the standout milestones within my first 100 days was having funds of up to £27.5 million approved. These funds are going to be pivotal in enabling York and North Yorkshire growth across the region by testing new and innovative ways to tackle some of our biggest challenges. The four funds are: Vibrant and Sustainable High Streets Fund, Carbon Negative Challenge Fund, Business Innovation Fund and Skills Innovation Fund. The first visit related to these funds was my trip to Thirsk high street. As a small local business owner myself, I understand the need for support to maintain our high streets. I also know and understand that high streets are the hub of a community, and so it is vital that they get the support they need. These initial visits within my first 100 days have allowed me to listen to people who know best, gathering local insight so that the new Vibrant and Sustainable High Streets Fund can help businesses effectively. Any way you cut it, $11.4M in support funding is great news for New Westminster! The federal Housing Accelerator Fund recognizes Municipalities that are taking action to address the housing crisis, and helps fund initiatives to accelerate this action. This funding will help our City and region address the pressures of regional growth through reduced permitting timelines, faster response to recent provincial housing regulation, and updating our Inclusionary Housing and Family Friendly Housing policies. It will also help in meeting the infrastructure needs that come from housing growth. https://lnkd.in/gTSv4gF6

Loves lifting the lid in places | Exec Director BID Leamington | MPA Global Diversity Governance | Urban Planner | Create, Collaborate, Celebrate | 🌸
Its a treat to chair this #PublicRealm group for The BID Foundation. We bring together a fab group of people working in this space across large and small BIDs. It's rich territory for those that love being involved in projects that shape lives and place narratives. My hope is for it to be as valuable as possible to colleagues and the industry - a space to support each other, share, inspire and influence. It's ours to shape. We've identified a range of interest areas - and at our second meeting we were delighted to hear from Rebecca Handley as we discussed gaining support for delivering projects - both large and small. I also enjoyed hearing about Rachel McAllister Bean's rejuvenation project in York too (shared in a post below). We are working on plans to share more, next week I'll share our What's App Gp with members, and at some point we hope to meet in person. Please get in touch if you wish to learn more or get involved. Huge thanks to Lisa Gibbs AIPM, Matthew Davis FIPM and Rachel Nickeas for your support organising 🙏 Mattie Richardson, Tom Swithinbank, Eliza Daeschler, LEED Green Associate, Mike Mounfield, Sophie Alexander, Carl Alsop, Shaun Holland, Will Dyson, Alex Butt, Nadia Broccardo #riskmanagement #accessibility #netzero #safespaces #inclusion #accessibility #urbanforests #funding #tacticalurbanism #greenstrategy #stakeholderengagement #bidleadership
Our #PublicRealm working group was chaired by Stephanie K. this morning, with Business Improvement Districts sharing best practice and shaping an agenda for the spaces that we all value in towns and cities. This is an urgent topic, with local authority spending power decreasing and a complex landscape for property owner engagement. BIDs are increasingly raising funds for and coordinating new public realm that enriches local areas, socially and economically. Whether that's small scale, through parklets and greening, to the larger transformation of squares and key walking routes. We all want spaces that we connect to and that encourage us to dwell. So, a big question is how to ensure these spaces are cared for, and that new spaces created over the next 3-5 years. A full write up of the session will be issued shortly; thank you to group members joining today Mattie Richardson Tom Swithinbank Eliza Daeschler, LEED Green Associate Mike Mounfield Sophie Alexander Rebecca Handley Rachel McAllister Bean Nadia Broccardo Lisa Gibbs AIPM and Frankie Donnelly

Toronto Ward 15, where I live, is having a by election. And I’m running to bring my experience and attitude to council, specifically to focus on two things: 1. Housing people can afford: to move out of their parents homes, to live with a partner, to have a family and to retire to. Having a good mix of housing will create vibrate communities and avoid destruction of the greenbelt. 2. Ramp up the decarbonization of Toronto: a plan to take out the natural gas system, build up Toronto Hydro, make it convenient to take less trips by car, and electrify everything. Housing and decarbonization are not rivals; if we pay for one it’s a smaller incremental cost to hit both goals. So let’s do it all. To start, I need money. If you live in Ontario, please consider donating. You will get a rebate cheque of up to 75% of the donation, for example, for a $200 donation you will receive a cheque for $150. For all of you who feel that paying it forward to future generations is a responsibility, here is a chance for you to step up. www.votesheenasharp.ca

As the following Planning Magazine article from the American Planning Association points out, while there isn't one solution to resolve the entire housing supply crisis, there are replicable actions that can be applied in most communities. "Omaha, Nebraska, is an example of a place that's forging public-private partnerships and leveraging multiple layers of funding to both build and preserve affordable housing, according to a case study from the Housing Supply Accelerator Playbook." Haltom United Business Alliance (HUBA) argues that Haltom City's parking minimums deter investment along older corridors. Joe Palmer, HUBA's Communications Director, states, 'Current codes and policies discourage investment along the older corridors of the city, and one of the more obvious deterrents is the issue of parking minimums.' The nonprofit Strong Towns highlights the downsides of imposed parking minimums in their e-book 'Stuck in Park: How Mandatory Parking Minimums Hurt American Cities.' It emphasizes that parking areas generate far less tax revenue than buildings and businesses, 'squandering a finite resource (land) with virtually no direct financial benefit.' Palmer believes eliminating parking mandates would allow potential business owners to determine their parking needs, encouraging new businesses and revitalizing neighborhoods. 'If we want to get those buildings occupied, we need policies that encourage new businesses,' he said. 'Encouraging small businesses start-ups will not only help revitalize those neighborhoods but will create a stronger tax base and enhance quality of life.' HUBA advocates for a revitalization plan to prevent further degradation in Haltom City's southern and central areas. The movement 'Make Haltom City Thrive Again,' led by entrepreneur Ron Sturgeon, aims to attract small businesses back to these older parts, easing the tax burden on residents. #parking #smallbusiness #revitalization #strongtowns @hubahaltom @makehaltomthrive

How would you spend £20 million? - https://lnkd.in/eH9pbkSN It may have passed some by, but in the last Budget the then Chancellor, Jeremy Hunt, stood up and committed £20 million extra funding for Runcorn Old Town. It's called the Long-Term Plan for Towns (LTPT). This funding is on top of the £23.6 million that is already paying for the eight Reconnecting Runcorn projects, including the first part of Phase 1 of Unlock Runcorn. Halton Borough Council (HBC) have launched a consultation to get our views on how the money should be spent. Unlock Runcorn believe that you can only tackle economic decline by addressing the underlying causes and enabling growth. The Old Town needs people and business to spend their money in the town, and for that they need a reason to come. Unlocking Runcorn would provide a unique visitor attraction that builds on the town's rich heritage and would draw people from wider locations with varied interests to the location. We encourage all of our supporters to have their say by following this link https://lnkd.in/e-XsGeS2 and hitting the 'Survey' tab. Please don't be passive on this and assume others will do it. We need all our supporters to do this as it is a one and only chance to have your views heard by HBC directly.
