Today is a day for celebrating our amazing industry and community, but more importantly, it’s a day for raising awareness about the importance, impact, and value of events. What kind of research do we do as part of the #Horizon2020 ReROOT Project? Well, what if I told you that as part of figuring out the #successes and #failures in #localintegration we put on a #selfdefense course? If we are going to reach our goal of changing the way people think about and do #integration, we have to think about and address the barriers to social and economic inclusion. Check out the innovative work our researcher Marhabo Saparova has been up to in #Istanbul: Gender-based/intersectional discrimination and violence have played a prominent role in the arrival processes of newcomers in the Fatih district in Istanbul. Our action research therefore involved the organisation of Wendo self-defense trainings where participants acquire practical tools to empower themselves against different types of violence. This research action aimed to a) create a safe space for newcomers to discuss taboo and sensitive topics, and b) initiate community bond/s based on the shared experience of violence. The #leedsdigitalfestival is happening and there are so many great events! These are the two I've picked today 😍 -  EquiTech : is your company doing enough for women and race inclusivity?🤝🏆 - Freedom from Imposter Syndrome for Tech & Digital Professionals ⚙👩💻 The one thing I love to see when attending events in this space is how diverse talent is! Forget stereotypes please💡 Despite this of course, not all talent is well represented, not all groups are as visible or equally as seen in the tech industry. This is something we can all contribute to changing for the best 💪 Simply checking in with a colleague to ask if they're ok, asking for people's opinions often to make sure their voice is heard, is an essential step towards change. Acknowledging some comments are simply not ok is something we can all do! We also need allies in people with more power o priviledge to stand up for what's right 🤗 Not feeling seen can cause #impostersyndrome, and the best way to combat this is to address where it comes from, to implement habits that remind us that we deserve where we are daily. What an exciting day at #ICA2024! I had the opportunity to present three of my current studies and publications. 💭 Again such an amazing engagement organised by Major Group for Children and Youth for the #SummitoftheFuture. Absolutely amazing to connect and engage with young people about the potential we have as a collective when it comes to multilateralism and the involvement of young people in the United Nations. 🌍 Collectively we can make such a tremendous impact and change the trajectory of the future for young people so that they are not only affected by the consequences, but are active contributors to the world & future they deserve. #Youth4SustainableDevelopment #Sotf2024 #YouthInMultilateralism 👏

What's GirlDreamer doing for #IWD2024 you ask? Well, nothing. Hear us out ... As a women-led and women-focused organisation, every day is essentially women's day for us. So last year, with a busy winter to spring period, we didn't have additional capacity to do something big for IWD and were so exhausted from the run up, that we decided to rest. Our IWD was spent taking the day off and it was glorious. We had energy and capacity to either do nothing or just simply turn up and be in attendance to other wonderful events, talks and opportunities to learn. It was such a strange but wholesome experience - some of us loved being a guest on this day and others just took a day off and so we decided to do it again! Our take is that it's all about intentionality and genuine engagement. If you're doing something epic today for IWD, either personally or through your organisation, more power to you and in fact, we might be turning up to one of your events! And if you're not, and are also deciding to give yourself the day off, then rest up, you deserve it! Whichever it is, it's always a personal choice that we should honour. It doesn't make us any more or any less, so whether you are genuinely opting in or genuinely opting out - we wish you a happy international women's day and as always, we love and appreciate you all. #GirlDreamer #iwd2024 #womensday2024 #internationalwomensday
