Last weeks Duathlon in support of Dorothy House Hospice Care was a huge success! Not only did participants meet our goal of 847 miles, but they surpassed it with a total of 1006.75 miles! This achievement was made possible by the dedication, teamwork, and enthusiasm of everyone involved. The day was filled with fun, team spirit, and a shared goal of making a positive impact. Whether cycling or running, everyone gave their best, creating an unforgettable experience. So far we have raised £917.60, which covers four nights of care at Dorothy House. Tomorrow is the day!! HW are attempting an 847-mile virtual journey from Land's End to John O'Groats, in just 12 hours! The challenge will take place from 6am-6pm tomorrow. We have partnered with K24 Fitness, which is situated across from our Head Office in Westbury. We will have the use of their gym facilities and our participants will be riding bikes and running (or walking!) on treadmills within the facility. An on-road cycling group will also be setting off in the morning to rack up more miles! All levels of fitness are welcome, and any walk or cycle can be counted, whether it's an extra-long dog walk or an afternoon bike ride in the park. To participate, even without coming to the gym, just log your walk/run/cycle distance within the 12 hour period and send it to us; your submission will be entered and added to the mile count. Does anyone else feel anxious before taking annual leave? I know I should be excited, but instead, I find myself worrying about everything piling up at work, missing something important, or just being out of the loop. It’s ironic that the very thing meant to help me unwind ends up stressing me out. It's a strange mix of guilt and anxiety, almost as if I’m doing something wrong by taking a break, even though the HW leadership consistently emphasises the importance of rest and enjoying your holiday. The irony is, I recognise the need to recharge, but the anticipation often feels more stressful than just staying at work. I keep reminding myself that rest is productive and that taking care of myself is just as important as getting things done. As the office manager, I also worry about the team (although they’re doing great because they’re truly amazing). I can’t help but feel a bit guilty about not being there for them should they need me. The anxiety surrounding annual leave is a common experience for many of us. While we understand the importance of taking time off to recharge, the anticipation of disconnecting from our responsibilities can often lead to stress and guilt. It’s a reflection of our deep commitment to our work and our desire to ensure everything runs smoothly, even in our absence. However, it's crucial to remember that taking breaks is not just a personal indulgence but an essential component of maintaining long-term productivity and well-being. By acknowledging and addressing these feelings, and perhaps gradually adjusting our approach to time off, we can better embrace the true benefits of rest and return to work refreshed and more effective. #worklifebalance #annualleaveanxiety #supportiveteam
