Who should own the AI (and data) agenda and why is the answer not self evident? Sometimes it feels like organizations are trapped in a cat and mouse game where business and IT/data stakeholders keep pointing at each other to take the lead 🐱🐭 --- Want to access the full content from our success event AI:Beyond The Hype? Effective AI and data management necessitates a collaborative approach, involving both technical and strategic leadership to align with business goals, ethical standards, and legal requirements.
The main culprit is long lead times. If you are unable to iterate quickly, due to technical or organizational deficiencies, you will endlessly fail to extract any business value from data. The nature of the thing is such that iterative exploration is a necessity, even for the static business -- add to that then also that the business requirements will typically constantly change. You should strive for a lead time that is less than a day. From my interactions with companies, most of them are on several weeks -- it becomes useless.

6moThis approach bears an unsettling resemblance to a linear development process, similar to the waterfall model — where one party places an "order", and the other executes on it. In my humble opinion working agile and cross-functionally is a much more effective way of achieving a desired outcome. Business, of course, provides the context, direction, and even the desired outcome(s), but the challenge should ideally be solved by a cross-functional team which includes business people itself. There is a high risk of misalignment, breakdown of trust, lack of buy-in and failure when business simply views tech as those that execute on requirements.
