The pace of innovation in alkaline and PEM #electrolysis is breathtaking. Costs are tumbling and efficiencies are rising. Stack architecture is undergoing a radical transformation and materials are migrating to low-cost, earth-abundant chemicals. And then come the challenger technologies. AEM and Solid oxide electrolysers are on the rise. AEM will threaten the market share of PEM in intermittent applications and AEM membrane innovation will see the stack life improve, stack sizes increase and costs of ownership decline. Solid oxide is the undisputed top-pick for e-SAF, #efuels and green #ammonia integration - on paper. But it needs to scale and become more bankable. And then, there are the 'zinger from left field' disruptors that defy classification in the established 4 technology boxes. Supercritical electrolysis and membrane / diaphragm free electrolysis to name but two. Manufacturability, bankability, operability... these are some of the key issues across the board in this sector for large #hydrogen projects. A pilot project with two different electrolysis technologies in one location challenges future audits in comparison.

AEM electrolyser technology Enapter AG is one of the major new players in the electrolyser market with a new vision and technology for megawatt-scale green hydrogen production with its AEM Nexus 1000 electrolyser. To produce green hydrogen in a cost-effective manner, the industrial and energy companies of the future need efficient electrolysis on a large scale.

Hydrogen BC member B.C. Centre for Innovation and Clean Energy (CICE) recently announced the recipients of their first 2024 Call for Innovation, which attracted close to 200 applications from across the province. In total, nine B.C. companies scaling breakthrough climate and clean energy solutions have secured $7.6 million in non-dilutive funding to accelerate the development, commercialization and adoption of their technologies. Clean hydrogen funding recipients includes members pH7 Technologies and Westport Fuel Systems:   pH7 Technologies is commercializing an electrolyzer enabled extraction process to get more copper out of low-grade ores to keep up with growing market demand, while also producing clean hydrogen to lower mine emissions. HPDI Technology is advancing a project, through a new joint venture between Westport Fuel Systems and Volvo Group, that aims to nearly double the range of hydrogen-HPDI equipped heavy duty trucks.    Please join us in congratulating pH7 Technologies and Westport Fuel Systems for being awarded this funding! 🏆 Nr. #1 of the most read ISPT articles in 2023: the publication of the public report of the Next Level Solid Oxide Electrolysis project The Next Level Solid Oxide Electrolysis feasibility study has explored the potential of Solid Oxide Electrolysis (SOEC) technology in the chemical and fuel industries, for example for large-scale green hydrogen production. This project aims to scale up the use of SOEC and assess its viability as a solution for the production of hydrogen, carbon monoxide and syngas by electrolysis.
