What constitutes a successful coccidiosis-vaccination program? It starts with proper vaccine handling and uniform application at the hatchery. While many factors can influence the outcome, there are numerous ways to monitor the bird to track vaccine effectiveness. "Getting chicks to eat and drink soon after placement is key because active chicks are more likely to access the sporulated oocysts they need to build immunity," says Charlie Broussard, DVM, Merck Animal Health. Broussard offers tips on how to determine whether the vaccination program is on track to protect the flock at https://lnkd.in/gC7YahfQ #poultryproduction #poultryhealth #coccidiosis

Trap-Neuter-Return (#TNR) is the only humane and effective approach to community cats, or unowned cats who live outdoors. Here are the three basic steps to this lifesaving process: 1. TRAP: Humanely trap community cats in box traps lined with newspaper, cardboard, or vent covers 2. NEUTER (or spay): Take the cats in their traps to a veterinarian or clinic to be neutered, vaccinated, eartipped, and microchipped with caregiver or TNR advocate information 3. RETURN: After the cats recover, return them to their outdoor home where they were trapped Learn more at alleycat.org/TNRGuide #FeralTuesday

PARVOVIRUS Being a 'dog person' is fantastic, owning a dog can be a great source of enjoyment, but there are other important factors to consider before you get a dog, for example, your ability to provide the needs of your dog. Dog ownership is a major responsibility. Dogs live for about 13 years or longer and so the decision to care for a dog should long term and we cannot say this enough. As a dog owner, one of the disease you should absolutely know about and make sure to prevent your dog from contacting is parvovirus. Canine parvovirus is a highly contagious virus mainly affecting dogs and is spread from dog to dog by direct or indirect contact with their feces. It can be fatal to dogs. Vaccines can prevent this infection, but mortality can reach 91% in untreated cases. Treatment often involves veterinary hospitalization. Puppies aged six weeks to six months and unvaccinated dogs are most at risk.Presenting signs include anorexia, lethargy, vomiting, and diarrhea, which is often hemorrhagic. An infected puppy will often show lethargy as the first sign, and they may not want to eat. They will also often have a fever. Caring for a dog can be a bit expensive but it is important that we try to give them the best that we can afford. Eze Ruth Chidera ✍️ #pethealth #petcare
