Yard House Best on tap 2024 in the books. Congratulations to all the bartenders that made it some of the best talents out there till next year. By all means not an easy competition pour testing, detailed recipe knowledge, beer knowledge, blind beer tasting, wine knowledge description taste profiles, along with speed and hospitality. The judging, comes down to a fraction an ounce. A lineup of beers and describing the taste profile and what type of beer it is what kind of style it is. What kind of varietal that wine is just by the smell and taste. Is it two drops of bitters or four is it a lemon or an orange ?Doing all this while lineup of judges analyzes your every move. Do you have what it takes to best on tap?

When bars and pubs empty their plastic beer kegs from the Bornholm breweries and throw them away because the kegs used by the breweries are not reusable. But this is about to change. Bornholm's draft beer may soon become more environmentally friendly. Johnny Fagerlund, owner: Small Batch "We have long been searching for kegs that are more sustainable than the ones we have today, it's always annoying to have to drop off plastic at a waste center." The Bornholm breweries have entered into a collaboration with the company Beer Concept, which offers greener alternatives than the disposable plastic kegs they use today. The keg is essentially like a regular one, but the difference is that there is minimal plastic waste, although more work is required to make them. BOFA will collect the reusable kegs and distribute them to the breweries, and one of those who will receive them back is: Christian Skovdal Andersen from Beer Here “If a bar owner gets tired of having them in the cellar, they can simply throw them on BOFA, which will set them aside for others to pick up, reducing waste” When the breweries get the used kegs back, only the inner balloon in the keg is not recycled. You remove the head, pull out the dirty bag, throw it away, put a new bag in the keg, and screw the head back on. The new kegs are not only environmentally friendly, but also not more expensive than regular disposable kegs, so there is no economic loss. If the kegs perform as promised, they will also significantly reduce the breweries' plastic consumption, with an estimated quarter less plastic waste compared to current methods. All six breweries on Bornholm have ordered the new reusable kegs, which will be tested in the coming period. Beer Committees - A Cornerstone of Governance I’ve been thinking about a conversation with a Beer Committee friend at a rugby club. You can’t underestimate how important that role is. - you are there the fulfil the club mission (keep beer drinkers happy to generate the profits that keep the club running) -collectively making good decision is challenging (agreeing on beer choices and prices where opinions run deep requires skillful negotiation) -monitoring and evaluation (you live with the consequences of your decisions every time you stand at the bar, and people tell you exactly what they think) People preforming governance activities exist in lots of communities. Doing lots of effective governance, but it’s not spoken about as ‘governance’. It’s worth looking at what already exists. Beer Committees might be a good place to start. Here’s a story about it ⬇️
