The 2024 Foodbank Australia Hunger Report revealed that nearly 2 million Australian households faced severe food insecurity in the past year. At End Food Waste Australia, we believe that fighting food waste is fighting food insecurity. No one should go hungry when perfectly edible food goes to waste. That's why we work with #AustralianFoodPact signatories across the supply chain, to enhance food donations while minimising food waste. Working with food rescue organisations such as Foodbank Australia, SecondBite, FareShare and OzHarvest enables us to keep edible food in the supply chain and get it to those who need it most. If you are seeking solutions to address food waste, we are here to help. "Food wastage" is a significant global issue, contributing to hunger, environmental degradation, and resource waste. Millions of tons of food are discarded yearly, while many people still face food insecurity. "To control food wastage" ✓ We can adopt better planning when shopping, store food properly to extend its life, and repurpose leftovers. ✓ Additionally, supporting food recovery programs and educating communities on the impact of food waste can make a significant difference. ✓ Businesses can also reduce waste by optimizing supply chains and donating excess food. ✓ Small actions collectively can lead to big changes. Thanks Shahid Maqsood Tayyab shb & Ammar Khan shb for such a great and informative session conducted at #EBM #Foodloss #Foodwaste #Gogreen

Today is #StopFoodWasteDay! Will you make a pledge to reduce food waste? Unsure how to? Consider the choices you make when selecting food. Don’t take more than you can eat. If possible, sample food before taking it. Use leftovers by combining them into a meal or in a new recipe. Donate unused and unopened food to local food service agencies. Because in the US we waste nearly 40% of the food produced, your actions can make a difference! Reducing food waste is sustainable because it reduces methane, a potent GHG, produced from food decomposing in the landfill, it focuses feeding people, and reduces food costs. #winthrop #winthropuniversity #dontwastefood #DontWasteFoodSC #EarthDayEveryDay #EarthDay2024 #StopFoodWasteDay #StopFoodWaste

The theme for European Week for Waste Reduction (16th - 30th November) is food waste. Did you know that one third of food produced for human consumption is wasted in this world? Even more shocking is that more than half of the wasted food comes from households How can we help to reduce food waste? Here's a reminder to ourselves: 🍎 Plan meals and shop smartly to avoid overbuying. 📦 Store food correctly to extend its shelf life. 🍲 Embrace leftovers and get creative with recipes. 🤝 Donate surplus food to those in need. #EWWR2024 #FoodWaste #FoodWasteIsOutOfTaste

In a world where millions go hungry each day, reducing food wastage is crucial. Every morsel wasted represents lost resources and missed opportunities to nourish those in need. One-third of all food produced is wasted, contributing to environmental degradation and climate change. Simple actions like planning meals, storing food properly, and being mindful of portions can make a significant difference. Businesses can help by implementing efficient inventory systems, donating surplus food, and educating consumers. Let's commit to valuing our food, respecting the effort that goes into producing it, and sharing it wisely. Reducing food waste is an opportunity to show compassion and stewardship. #ZeroWaste #SustainableFuture #EndHunger

Last week, the Prime Minister's Chief Science Advisor, Dame Juliet Gerrard, and her team at the OPMCSA launched the final reports and recommendations on food loss and waste. Read the summary here ➡️ https://bit.ly/4f1Cm11 This research from Dr Gerrard and team at the Office of the PMCSA, was ambitious in it's broad scope and level of detail looking at all aspects of food loss, food rescue and food waste in Aotearoa. The multi-phased research project kicked off a couple of years ago, including visiting Kaibosh as part of their deep dive to understand more about food rescue. New Zealand Food Waste Champions 12.3 Charitable Trust (NZFWC 12.3 Trust) are leading the way with businesses through their Kai Commitment Programme. Kaibosh was also pleased to hear that the Honourable Penny Simmonds, Minister for the Environment, confirmed the government's commitment to ensuring that good food gets to people and that the environmental, social, and economic benefits of reducing food waste are a quick win on the government's agenda. In summary, Aotearoa needs to do these five things to reach #ZeroFoodWaste: 1⃣ Save good food for people 2⃣ Prevent food waste at its source 3⃣ Measure and monitor our food loss and waste 4⃣ All food waste to be diverted – with no place left for landfill 5⃣ Establish a national food loss and waste strategy and reduction target #FoodSystem #FoodWaste #FoodRescue #FoodResilience

🍎 This is what ONE DAY of food that we rescued from just TWO supermarkets looks like. In 2023, 3.7 million Australian households faced moderate to severe food insecurity. Meanwhile, the Lucky Country wastes $36.6 billion worth of food annually, with 70% of it being perfectly edible. The numbers are staggering: • 17.5 million tonnes of CO2 emitted yearly from food waste in Australia • 10% of global greenhouse gas emissions from wasted food • 18 billion of the 75 billion pigs, chickens, turkeys, cows, goats, and sheeps raised for food around the world were never eaten. But behind these statistics are real people—families struggling to put food on the table while perfectly good produce goes to waste. Having volunteered in Skid Row, Los Angeles, and Newtown, Sydney, I've seen firsthand how rescued food brings warmth and smiles to those facing hardship. What can we do? 🏠 As consumers: Reduce waste at home. It's simple but impactful. 🤝 Volunteer: Organisations like Foodbank Australia, OzHarvest, FareShare and other grassroots groups always need help. 🏢 For businesses: While many are implementing solutions, there's room for improvement. From digital inventory management to composting inedible food waste, every step counts. #FoodWaste #Sustainability #CorporateResponsibility #FoodSecurity #CommunityAction

Food Waste Reduction Conduct a waste audit to identify areas where food waste occurs and set reduction targets. Implement portion control measures in food preparation and offer smaller portions to customers. Donate surplus food to local food banks or charities. Compost food scraps and organic waste to divert them from landfills. Train staff on proper food handling and storage practices to minimize spoilage.
