Exciting times ahead for Colombia's energy sector! #Occidental Petroleum Corp. and #Ecopetrol SA are set to drill the deepest #offshore in the ultra-deep waters of #Colombia, the Komodo-1 well. This venture will explore a promising 4-way anticlinal structure with a Class 3-AVO anomaly and a double flat spot. At an impressive depth of approximately 3,950 meters (nearly 13,000 feet), this well aims to break existing water-depth records while reaching turbiditic Mio-Pliocene sandstone reservoirs. This ambitious effort, supported by advanced marine-seismic technology, enables exploration at unprecedented depths and distances. As Colombia's onshore reserves decline, this project is crucial for tapping into the country's vast offshore potential. Adding to the excitement, #Petrobras recently announced a new offshore discovery in Colombia with the #Uchuva-2 appraisal well, reinforcing the region's natural gas potential. Together, these developments signal a promising future for Colombia's #energy landscape. For more information on this and other #exploration-related insights, feel free to reach out to Rystad Energy

Aura Energy Limited (ASX:AEE, AIM:AURA) managing director and CEO Andrew Grove joins Proactive’s Jonathan Jackson to discuss developments at the Tiris Uranium Project in Mauritania. Grove shares promising results from the company’s phase one drilling program signalling extensive new #uranium mineralisation. He provides an overview of the phase one program, which has not only revealed significant new mineralisation but also highlighted the potential for substantial resource growth, beyond the initial estimate of 58.9 million pounds of U3O8. With high-grade mineralisation identified over a 6-square-kilometre area at Hippolyte South, the findings suggest potential extensions in multiple directions, with the area still open for exploration. Grove says phase two of the drilling program, aims to further delineate these findings and extend the mineralised trends. Oil Majors are Back in Monrovia Liberia’s new strategy of direct negotiation, consistency and aggressive engagement with investors have revived the interest in major international oil companies in the country’s frontier offshore basins. For instance, super majors like ExxonMobil and Shell have shown huge interest in exploring Liberia’s basins. Negotiations are ongoing to finalize deals that will see major investments come into its oil and gas industry. Thirty-three offshore blocks, twenty four (24) in the Liberian basin and nine blocks in the Harper basin are up for grabs. There are available 2D and 3D seismic data on the acreages. The Liberian basin is largely underexplored, with only 17 exploration wells drilled since the 1960s. Subsequent exploration wells drilled by International Oil Companies (IOC)’s between 2010 and 2017 were termed sub-commercial discoveries. However, it is very instructive to note that recent seismic and post-drilling data has proven that the basin is highly prospective. The news that Total Energies is considering abandoning its Brulpadda field investment on the West Coast should concern us greatly. It takes a lot for a company to forego an investment to the value of $400m. In the report they mumble something about the “small size of the South African gas market”, which cannot be the real reason because they seem to be hopping on to an even a smaller gas market in our neighbouring Namibia. Whatever their real reasons are, one can only assume that they have something to do with the findings of the latest mining attractiveness survey by the Fraser Institute, where South Africa ranks last globally. Stone last!!! Where's the uproar? Why is coming stone-last acceptable to South Africans? What does it say about the depths of our expectations on our politicians, that something as dire as this should be taken with a resigned shrug? Needless to say, something is gravely wrong with our mining investment environment. This includes the laws that allow environmentalist groups to routinely forestall potentially catalytic investments of national importance. I hope the GNU will promptly apply its mind to the systemic problems on display here. One wonders what the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy thinks about this parlous state of affairs.
