Lithium Universe (ASX:LU7) Ltd (ASX:LU7) CEO Alex Hanly joins Proactive’s Tylah Tully to discuss the company’s Preliminary Feasibility Study (PFS) for the Bécancour #LithiumCarbonateRefinery project in Québec, Canada. The study confirms the viability of the lithium conversion project, even in a low-pricing environment. The refinery aims to produce environmentally friendly, battery-grade #LithiumCarbonate with an annual capacity of 18,270 tonnes, drawing on the Jiangsu processing model. The company will source spodumene feedstock from both domestic and international markets, aligning with its goal to contribute to the North Atlantic lithium supply chain. The project presents strong financial indicators, with a pre-tax Net Present Value (NPV) of around US$779 million and an Internal Rate of Return (IRR) of 23.5%. Latin Resources Limited (ASX:LRS, OTC:LRSRF) managing director Chris Gale speaks with Proactive’s Elisha Newell after the company enhanced its #SalinasLithiumProject in Brazil via a mineral resource update (#MRE). The revised estimate, which significantly increases both the overall resource and the JORC confidence levels at the lithium play, stands at 77.7 million tonnes of ore at 1.24% Li2O, reflecting an 11% increase from the previous estimate. Notably, 95%, or 67.27 million tonnes of the cornerstone Colina deposit’s resource, is now classified in the higher confidence measured and indicated categories. The update precedes a definitive feasibility study for Salinas, which is set for release next quarter and expected to positively impact project economics by enhancing cash flow and extending mine life. The WA Battery and Critical Minerals Strategy 2024-2030 from the Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science and Innovation is now available. This updated strategy for batteries and critical minerals leverages existing investments in the sector, positioning Western Australia to become a global leader in downstream processing of critical minerals and to seize opportunities in battery manufacturing. For instance, developing bespoke solutions to facilitate the electrification of the state’s power grids and off-grid mining operations. Notably, #vanadium redox flow batteries are emerging as a long-duration storage technology that could be produced locally to aid domestic decarbonisation efforts. Viking Mines’ Canegrass Battery Minerals Project is located in the Murchison region, 620km north-east of Perth, Western Australia and contains a JORC (2012) Global Inferred Mineral Resource Estimate (MRE) of 146Mt at 0.70% V2O5, 31.8% Fe & 6.6% TiO2 (>0.5% V2O5 cut-off). Zonia is positioned for quicker production due to its pre-stripped nature and existing infrastructure, while Escalones has a larger resource but faces permitting challenges due to recent government restrictions. ✅ The copper market is currently experiencing a significant deficit, driven by the increasing demand for copper in electric vehicles, renewable energy technologies, and infrastructure development. This demand is expected to rise as the world moves towards decarbonisation. ✅ Many junior mining companies, including World Copper, are facing valuation challenges, particularly those with market caps below $50 million. The current market conditions make it difficult for these companies to attract investment and gain attention. ✅ World Copper plans to conduct a verification drill program to confirm the presence of copper on leach pads at the Zonia project. Successful verification could significantly enhance the company's market valuation and support its move towards a bankable feasibility study. 4th iteration of Anson DLE partnership. They started with Lilac IX and made lithium sulphate concentrated eluate on 4 October 2018. Then Lilac IX switched to HCL to make lithium chloride concentrate for Anson from 2019. Then Anson switched to Sunresin adsorbent DLE. Now it’s trying Koch which uses Lanshen adsorbents. But if you look at Koch DLE results in the Standard Lithium DFS Technical Report, the Lithium recovery by LSS LiPro DLE was far inferior to LiSTR. So it looks like superior impurity rejection of LSS LiPro was the main selection criteria. Not lithium recovery efficiency as that still seems very low. That means more energy use is needed for reverse osmosis and mechanical evaporation to concentrate weak eluate - albeit with lower impurities. The devil is always in the DLE detail.

In a new Reuters article by Ernest Scheyder there was a particular quote that really struck me as pertinent for those of us looking to valorize produced water to the fullest. This is from a piece on #DLE; however, the comment appears universally relevant: "The key to unlocking initial implementation of DLE tends to be that know-how plus infrastructure," Arcadium CEO Paul Graves told investors on Wednesday. "But once you have unlocked it, it's incredibly quickly replicable." Having the right technology to extract/harvest valuable constituents from produced water (whatever they may be) is only part of the equation; one must have the appropriate infrastructure in place in order to fully capitalize on the economic opportunities. Collaboration will be key.
