The team at Five a Day in Englefield Village work hard throughout the year to improve the wellbeing of visitors by providing outdoor learning opportunities for adults and children in a therapeutic environment, as well as corporate team building days. In 2023 it gained charity status and continues its efforts as a not-for-profit community supported project, making a positive impact on those who visit. On #InternationalDayOfCharity we want to celebrate and share some of the outstanding and important work carried out in 2024 at the gardens, which is driven by the dedicated volunteers… 🥕 543 children from local junior schools and 254 children from across the scouting and guiding organisations have visited Five a Day, taking part in horticultural education sessions where they can learn all about the garden, where their food comes from and how to grow plants sustainably. 🍅 Seven corporate volunteering sessions have been hosted, bringing 87 new volunteers to Five a Day. 🥔 A weekly group called Thyme Together continues to run, where elderly people can come together and enjoy the garden with the help of a trained Social and Therapeutic Horticulture practitioner. 🙌 The dedicated team of volunteers who maintain the garden, collectively gave 1,653 hours of their time in the first half of this year!
