Absolutely Nick. Some manufacturers focus only on removal of particles just before cell winding stage but by this stage some inclusions can already be embedded. As you say, a selective approach to target known higher risk process stages is best practise approach.
At a time when there are reports of spontaneous thermal events with lithium ion batteries, I am pleased to say we are in close discussions with many responsible battery manufacturers and designers who take contamination removal very seriously in their manufacturing processes! Together we are doing all we can to raise standards to deliver high production yields and safe batteries.
