🛎️ BIG NEWS FOR CCS IN LOUISIANA 🛎️ Primacy over Class VI wells has (finally!) been granted to Louisiana. The EPA notified Governor John Bel Edwards yesterday that Louisiana will now be the third state in the United States to have primacy over a Class VI well program for deep geologic wells for sequestration. This is significant because there are over 45 CCS projects in development in Louisiana. The LDNR will now have primary responsibility to enforce, govern, and administer these projects, including making sure that all environmental justice requirements are followed. Additionally, this news solidifies Louisiana’s position as the carbon capture capital of the United States. You can read more about the EPA’s decision here: https://lnkd.in/ggqRRpw5 And here: https://lnkd.in/g_qj-uVH #ccs #louisiana #renewableenergy #energytransition #carboncapture

A pivotal update for carbon capture and sequestration (CCS) as Louisiana now has primacy to issue its own Class VI well permits and help address the backlog of over two dozen permit applications for Louisiana currently under EPA review. Louisiana can now have more direct control over the pace of CCS infrastructure developed as their proximity to emitters and favorable geology combine for a win-win to accelerate CCS development. No wonder PCS is currently involved in a number of CCS projects planned for Louisiana. The granting of primacy to the state of Louisiana by EPA will potentially speed up the permitting process. This could result in an earlier start of construction, capture and sequestration of CO2 that otherwise would have been dispersed into the atmosphere. #carboncapture https://lnkd.in/eSYz-UXg

MarramWind is pleased to have collaborated with 11 other projects in the East and Northeast #ScotWind regions to produce a report examining potential regional ornithological compensation measures that could be deployed at scale and contribute to the increased resilience of seabird populations in Scotland. This important study was carried out by Royal HaskoningDHV, HiDef Aerial Surveying Limited and with input from NiMa Consultants Ltd. The report highlights the challenge the industry is facing in delivering offshore wind at scale under the current regulations. The developers are pleased the Scottish Government has launched its Joint Environmental Accelerator Project (JEAP) initiative and are keen to continue the proactive, collaborative work to ensure these projects deliver real environmental benefit as well as delivering net zero. The developers involved believe that significant focus on this issue is essential to delivering Scotland’s 2045 net zero targets and realising the wider benefits of ScotWind. Continued collaboration between all stakeholder groups to devise a practicable and appropriate approach to compensation measures is vital if our net zero, energy security, and local supply chain ambitions are to become reality.
