I don't know. "Amazing"? "Thrilling"? Not sure I'm coming up with superlatives that do this justice. Plenty of nay-sayers will highlight the lack of experience within the US when it comes to advanced packaging. They aren't wrong. But sayers of nay tend to lean on favorably negative facts. (Ick. "Favorably negative" is a terribly accurate thing to say there, unfortunately). And Amkor Technology, Inc. will not have an easy time of it. Arizona has become the new hotspot for semiconductor manufacturing. Already facing tough challenges in workforce establishment, and that's before the heavy lifting of international knowledge transfer. This industry does not sit still. Local universities and community colleges are serving a greater and greater role. And platforms like Chipquest streamline and modernize the onboarding and knowledge transfer process to help avoid the sheer overwhelm already experienced elsewhere. The need is present. The commitment is there (by both government and industry). The workforce tools are in place. I expect success at Amkor AZ. #semiconductor #training #onboarding

The semiconductor manufacturing industry is changing thanks to this initiative. Panama offers many advantages for semiconductor manufacturing. I love reading about geopolitics and the larger dynamics that drive industry and commerce around the world. Case in point, I devour books, podcasts, and interviews with Peter Zeihan. He's recently re-released "The Accidental Superpower", one of his first books, with an update for everything that is happening now in the world. I highly recommend it. The interesting bit here for my LI fam, is that I'm very excited to and hopeful to watch manufacturing migrate back to North America. Globalization was beneficial to so many different countries, but I believe we are seeing the end of that as we have come to know it since the end of World War II. This coupled with the lessons we learned about supply chain disruption during the pandemic are going to drive growth here in North America like we've never seen before. Specifically, I'm hopeful for the semiconductor industry, and locally here in North Carolina, I'm following Wolfspeed's participation in this space very closely! The CHIPs Act, which was passed 2 years ago to revitalize and strengthen the domestic semiconductor industry. It provides financial incentives, including grants and tax credits, to encourage investment in manufacturing and research here in the US. The linked article below is wonderful news, as Wolfspeed has now been cleared to apply for this federal program to assist them in their efforts, which have already started with a new $5B facility being built right here in North Carolina! The CHIPS and Science Act is the most important innovation-focused legislation in decades. It is America's game plan to meet the competitive challenge from China and win the innovation future. The Center for American Entrepreneurship thanks the Biden-Harris Administration, and all Members of the House and Senate who voted to enact the legislation, for their extraordinary leadership. We also thank Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo, Eric Smith, and everyone at the U.S. Economic Development Administration and Commerce Department for their ongoing work to implement the legislation. The critical task now is for Congress to act to fully fund what it has authorised. America's innovation future and long-term economic competitiveness depend on it.
