A glimpse into my next major #retail report, with a heavy focus on #AI: one of the things we don't hear much about is #visualsearch. Taking a picture of a streetwear look, or a post to search for the product is easy. Yet, most #brands aren't focusing on dominating visual searches to ensure their products appear first. With #genAI we will see entire collections built around the back catalog of a famous designer's designs, or quickly capture seasonal trends and offer a whole collection on #tiktok or #amazon without having to invest in physical products until the order is placed! 2025: As major #fashion brands continue to lower quality and increase prices to increase margins, what is the incentive for consumers to pay for a label when they can easily purchase the look (with similar quality) for much less? Would you buy a designer look-alike if the search engine told you there was a double, made of the same fabric, at 75% less? The Business of Fashion shared its first experiment in using #artificialintelligence to solve a set of industry challenges regarding #brand awareness and the effectiveness of consumer #marketing. As our industry continues its inexorable shift from analog to digital marketing channels, new challenges — and opportunities — are emerging for fashion brands spending more on marketing but still lacking the right measurement tools. “The BoF Brand Magic Index” offers a new AI approach and promises a "quantifiable and trackable" metric to evaluate a brand’s marketing efforts by measuring the distance between brands and their customers. The Index is powered by AI models from Quilt.AI that are trained on "hundreds of millions of cultural expressions" to evaluate content shared by brands and their customers on social media. For the first iteration of this analysis, BoF quantified that alignment in the form of a “Brand Magic” score for 50 global luxury and fashion brands, including CHANEL , Michael Kors , Tommy Hilfiger , and Calvin Klein . According to the report, @Miu Miu, Giorgio Armani , and HUGO BOSS top the Index. Lanvin, Michael Kors, Gucci, and Diesel are the least aligned. AI in fashion. Shein. We have been paying very close attention to SHEIN in our quest to find the most advanced #AI in #fashion, even before events with the #IPO on London Stock Exchange started to develop. As it seems, Shein is already worth more than adidas, yet Adidas was founded in 1949 and Shein in 2008. So, how did they grow so fast? One reason is certainly a hard-working #entrepreneur with exceptional execution capabilities, who somehow manages to avoid all the media distraction as well. There are surely numerous other reasons that could be explored in great detail, but one of the more important ones is certainly AI. Given all the app downloads, gamification, and content discovery algorithms, I believe Shein should be actually considered more of a tech than a fashion company. While this might seem less obvious at first sight, that is probably why they need more capital, to be able to expand more into that domain, anyway. Also, whenever we speak about hyper-personalisation of something these days, which we often do in the case of Shein, in association with the new category of ultra-fast fashion that they have started, we are speaking about some sort of AI.
