Our latest Seniors Keys to Independence Program (SKIP) participants graduated after completing training at our new location in Farmers Branch! SKIP is a program funded by the Texas Workforce Commission that sends older individuals from all over Texas who are in need of blind skills training or low vision rehabilitation services to training centers where they learn independent living skills. Our participants learned a variety of living skills and tools to help them maintain their independence! #LowVisionRehabilitation #BlindSkills #Blind #LowVision #LowVisionTools #AssistiveTechnology

GIANT TODDLERS RIOT IN SOUTHPORT..... just look at these people. They are not behaving rationally. They cannot assess a situation for themselves, they like a simple narrative and to move without thinking of the consequences. They are easily led by others because they have some big gaps in their basic development. We as a society made these people. let us not wrap it up in a simple narrative ourselves. We as a society chose to obsess about numeracy & literacy at 4yo and not to seek to maximise human development for ALL. * No PE curriculum to maximise and maintain motor skills development * No sound therapy at all - I am certain that all the rioters will have sound processing disorders * No checks for binocular vision or visual processing - I am certain that none have good visual skills We are complex animals. Human development needs to be the central theme of any effective education and health system. Educator, Facilitator, and Trainer for Social Change. I help those dedicated to social and organizational change do their work effectively, sustainably, and authentically. jamesboutin.com
I’m working on some language to describe a two-day in-person training I’m designing for this coming June. How does it sound? This two-day in-person training is for seasoned social justice advocates who are tired of poor communication, burnout, and competition sabotaging valuable social justice efforts. If that’s you, you’ve probably been around long enough to see important movements lose power due to infighting. You may even have lost close relationships along the way. It’s become clear that the competition and infighting are collaborating with the system that social justice is trying to dismantle. While your commitment to social justice work is still strong, Frances Lee’s article "Excommunicate Me From the Church of Social Justice" resonates. All of this contributes to a longing for a way to make sense of this mess. You’d appreciate a framework for understanding oppression that humanizes every single human on earth, acknowledges the complex connections between systems and trauma, AND points us toward effective action. Most importantly, you want a deep dive into the skills needed for stewarding effective, sustainable, and authentic social justice relationships over time. Does any of this resonate?

Leader in education and mental health, helping to create transformational and lasting change for families and organizations.
With school right around the corner (and some that have already started) we’re getting calls from parents wondering if it’s too late to think about making a change to boarding school for the fall. In most cases, it’s not too late! Whether you’re wanting a smaller, safer environment or your student’s school doesn’t offer the specialty programs they need, boarding school can often be a transformational opportunity. (For the whole family, not just your child.) AND - boarding schools have such a mixed reputation. So let’s hear it! Finish this sentence in the comments: “But aren’t boarding schools ___________________?”
