Exciting News: Google’s Chromebook Production Initiative in Pakistan
Google announced a groundbreaking initiative to produce 500,000 Chromebooks in Pakistan by 2026. The first device was ceremoniously presented to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in Islamabad by Scott Beaumont, President of Google Asia Pacific (APAC).
In his address, PM Sharif praised Google for its global and local contributions, emphasizing the immense potential of Pakistan’s young generation in advancing IT and driving economic growth. He outlined the government’s ambitious goal of achieving $25 billion in IT exports over the next five years, calling it an attainable target.
The Prime Minister urged IT professionals and entrepreneurs to contribute their expertise and innovative plans to help realize this vision. He also committed to a fully paperless and digitized governance system to combat corruption and enhance transparency, supported by the recent appointment of a new IT secretary through a transparent process.
Minister of State for Information Technology and Telecommunication, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, highlighted Google’s crucial role in Pakistan’s digital transformation, aligned with the Prime Minister’s vision. Farhan S. Qureshi, Google’s Regional Director for Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka, noted the significant opportunities for freelancers and tech professionals in Pakistan, which this initiative will help unlock.
The event was also attended by Information Minister Tarar and Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal, marking a significant step towards enhancing Pakistan’s IT landscape and economic future.
