Celebrating the completion of my second year in Ørsted ! Here are some interesting experiences I had in my second year: 1. Parental Leave of 12 weeks for the birth of my second child. A global policy which meant a Malaysian baby and family is just as important as any around the world to the organisation. 2. Seeing the company adapt to a tough industry situation, which meant saying goodbye to some awesome colleagues whose roles had become redundant globally. 3. My first trip to South Korea to a submarine cable manufacturer's plant. 4. My first trip to China to another submarine cable manufacturer's plant. 5. My first time working on a project for Poland. 6. My first time participating in employee elections resulting in me being appointed as an Alternate Employee-Elected Member of the Board of Directors Orsted A/S 2024-2025. There's no official duty since I'm only an alternate though. My reflections at this time based on the fact that the renewable energy industry will definitely grow towards 2050 1. As an employee, there's a need to relentlessly develop skills and knowledge to be a valuable asset in growing this industry towards 2050 2. There will be ups and downs in the industry towards 2050 due to various external circumstances which we must have robust plans to withstand, and adapt rapidly as required to keep moving forward. 3. To provide opportunity for anyone without prior RE industry experience to get involved, we need to ensure there exists free access to certification in RE industry basics. That will remove any barrier to entry for new and experienced talents. 4. We need great engineers to design and deliver better assets, so engineering careers need to be encouraged by ensuring that the industry's scale of fees encourage engineers to aspire to become world class specialists and consultants. Paying engineers well results in longer term cost savings and improvement in quality. 5. The RE targets for 2050 will only materialise if there is a supply chain that can deliver, regulations and policies that support it, and lastly grid systems that can enable it. So this means the entire industry needs to move together towards this target and we need to collaborate to make it happen. With that, I'd say that I'm grateful for the eventful year for me and I'm positively curious what the next year holds for me and the industry.

Besides it being my birthday, this month marks two years since I left the lab and joined Optimat Ltd (which is also celebrating its 35th anniversary later this month) – plenty of reasons to celebrate! In summary, I’ve taken to consultancy life like a duck to water, and I can hardly imagine a better cultural fit than my current workplace. I used to be quite snarky about the idea of “transferable skills” (and I still find it ironic when discussed with someone in specialist training), but now I have the privilege of working across a wide range of industries, based purely on being good with people, asking the right questions, and knowing how to extract knowledge and insights from data. While life sciences in their broadest sense—advanced therapies, biotech, engineering biology, medtech—remain my first and main love, I’ve also been building a really exciting portfolio in materials, hydrogen, onshore wind, solar, and more. And yes, I’ve given away more free consultancy hours than I care to count (I have counted; it’s ridiculous) to share insights more broadly across projects, industries, and sector-specific challenges. Onwards and upwards :) (Now, if all this sounds uncharacteristically positive and inspirational, rest assured that I still complain daily about incredibly minor points. It’s getting kinda near, to the end of the year. But before you start to make resolutions for yourself, make sure you look at New Year just being a day in the same continuous sequence as any other day. It is seductive to view the New Year as a new beginning. I fall for it every year. The risk is that I start to look at shiny new projects to start and shiny new habits to create. That can mean I forget about the good things I already do and don’t spend the time and energy they require any longer. Or at least not enough because I’ve made myself busy with new shiny things. How about we use the New Year as a moment to assess what we do and redouble our efforts in those things we already do that we love, or are part of our purposeful existence, or are just damn fun to do? Make our resolutions about increasing our resolve on that which we already do. Happy new year to you all.

Welcoming in 2023 and the energy of A L I G N M E N T… Celebrating the energy of a new year with you! As we usher in new possibilities, I’m guided to ask… How do you most want to feel this year? Through my years of experience with Joy, what I know to be true is it’s different for everyone. I believe that Joy is alignment with how you most want to feel. This year I’d love to invite in a new approach… Rather than writing out New Year's Resolutions, what if you were to approach this year differently? If you are ready for a new way and want to really take things to the next (deeper) level this year, carve out space to work through the prompts below and raise your vibration in a practical and Joyful way! ⭐What are you celebrating from last year? ⭐What opportunities for growth (disguised as challenges) did you encounter? What did you learn? ⭐What are you most grateful for? ⭐What is ready to fall away? ⭐What do you want to take forward with you? ⭐What do you most desire to experience in 2024? ⭐What is one word to anchor it in? ⭐What inspired actions will create momentum toward it? ⭐What does it look like to TRUST more? Rather than the new year/new you mentality I like to think of the new year as an opportunity to pause, reflect and recommit. This new year brings new ways of doing things with more ease and flow. Honour the wisdom you’ve gained, commit to taking inspired action and experience real life magic! You’re at the edge of a new year and you get to decide how you want to show up. What does your desired experience require from you? Celebrating you and always cheering you on!

We’ve got… the experience. Later this year, we will celebrate our 25th anniversary alongside two of the original staff members—Angela Paul and Colin Pascoe—who are still enthusiastically and expertly engaged in every aspect of our operations. Both of these industry icons have experience that predates the launch of Monitor New Zealand, with both working together within the Answer Scan business and boasting over 30 years involvement in the New Zealand monitoring industry. Over that time these two have seen a massive amount of change, but one thing has remained unchanged—consistent customer service is key. Monitor New Zealand is the responsive and diligent business you see today due to the collective experience and knowledge of these two people. As Albert Einstein said: “Information is not knowledge. The only source of knowledge is experience, and you need experience to gain wisdom”.

🚀 Reflections on my new role at NZTE 🚀   Excited to be three weeks into my role as a Sector Advisor at NZTE. Here are three insights from my journey: 1. Finish Strong: This is relevant before you even get to the start line. I do my best to apply this valuable advice from a previous manager, when it comes to leaving your old role. That said, time for a thorough handover is a luxury and not always practical. I was very lucky this time round to do a thorough handover. From previous experience, writing handover notes can feel like a gamble; unsure if they'll be relevant (or even read?). And balancing an overlap of roles if you are moving internally, can feel like drinking from two fire-hoses at once 🌊 🌊! 2. Embrace Uncertainty: Beyond the job description, the vastness of a new role can feel overwhelming. I'm remembering to keep curious and keep learning . While delivering value is important, you need an understanding of context, stakeholders, and objectives to make an impact. 3. People Power: I have loved hitting the ground running. This has only been possible, thanks to my amazing colleagues. Every 1:1 has helped me to broaden my understanding. Teamwork is good for Business

Happy new month friends! How was January? Did it take 99 days? For me, it was smooth and full of growth. If you followed up on my last post, I shared two major milestones achieved in January. First was the Seember Academy conference that held, and secondly, we celebrated a hundred members in our community. However, we didn’t get here by merely wishing. It took my team and I, days of creating strategies and planning. Talking about my achievements isn’t to brag or put you under pressure. The year is still fresh and there’s so much you can achieve. However, it all starts now. February is here and totally yours to harness all of its 29 days. One major tool that can help you ensure you achieve your goals and keep you on the right track is creating a vision board. Here are three things a vision board will do for you; 1. Helps You Set Clear Goals: When you visually organise your intentions, you gain a clearer understanding of what you want to achieve, which thereby enhances your sense of direction and purpose. 2. Accountability: Creating a vision board is more than an activity, it is a Pledge. Establishing your goals visually makes them more tangible and holds you responsible for taking the necessary steps to turn your vision into a reality. 3. Gives You a Visual Motivation: Visualising your goals regularly on a vision board serves as a constant reminder of your objectives. The visual stimuli can be a powerful motivator, encouraging you to stay focused and committed to your ambitions. When you create a vision board in 2024, you can be rest assured that you are half way to fulfilling all of your goals. Here’s to an amazing 2024 where we’d all become the best versions of ourselves. The beginning of the year is the right time for self-reflection to prepare oneself for welcoming the new year. So, what do you do during self-reflection?

"Life is a #padav" (पड़ाव) is a phrase that reflects a #philosophical perspective on life, likening it to a temporary halt or resting point in a longer journey. In this context, "#padav" represents a stage or stopover, suggesting that life is a series of #phases or experiences that are part of a continuous journey. This idea can be interpreted in different ways: 1. **#TemporaryNature**: It emphasizes the transient nature of life, where each phase or experience is temporary and not permanent. Just as travelers rest at a #padav before continuing their journey, we go through different stages in life, each one preparing us for the next. 2. **#Reflection and #Growth**: A #padav can also be a time for reflection, growth, and preparation for what lies ahead. It encourages us to take stock of where we are, learn from our experiences, and ready ourselves for future challenges and opportunities. 3. **#Journey and #Destination**: This concept can remind us that life is not just about reaching a destination but about the journey itself. The #padavs we encounter—whether challenges, successes, or moments of rest—are all integral parts of our life's story.
