Reading the smoke signals Last week we demonstrated declining reservoir levels caused by El Niño and showed the consequences for hydropower generation. We also briefly mentioned what was taking up the slack. Here, we go into that in more, graphic, detail. Guess what? Petro-despised fossil fuel-generated power rises to fill the gap. The matrix The lead graph tells the whole story. We consolidate XM’s daily generation data by “resource” or source or plant if you will giving daily generation by technology group. Here we also consolidate “Self-generation” and “Dispatched” or centrally managed or “Utility” (if you will) and any other subcategories to get the major technology types. We take a 7-day Moving Average (aka MA(7)) because the weekly “seasonality” is quite pronounced and the eye tends to be drawn to that movement instead of what we want to talk about: the shift between categories... #renewableenergy #renewablenergy #renewablepower #energyindustry #epowercolombia #energy
