We cannot understate the importance of the YES Shelter for Youth and Families. It keeps some of our most vulnerable and disadvantaged citizens off the streets and help them get the counselling or skills they need for a self-sufficient and healthier life than what they left. So when YES says they need help, we're going to put out the call. There are three ways you can volunteer your time and talent, freeing up the shelter employees to help the clients. First, there is the maintenance crew. This is for someone with all-around handyperson skills who can donate a few hours a week, between 9-4, to keep the shelter itself and its satellite houses in good repair. Perfect for a retiree or someone between jobs. The next is a need for gardeners. Keeping the shelter grounds looking tidy and welcoming is important. You (and a friend or two) will be provided the gear necessary, but please bring your own sturdy footwear. It's a morning job during the week. The third is for general shelter crew. Can we give a description of this opportunity? Not really, as it changes every shift. Sometimes you'll be helping sort donations. Other times, you'll be fixing up a new resident's room, making sure the basics are there. It depends entirely on the day's needs. All of these positions require a Vulnerable Sector Check (you know you keep and reuse these, right?) and a separate application form. They are looking for people who are mature, non-judgemental, and able to respect boundaries and confidentiality. If you want do do something to help keep kids and families off the streets (or living in a car or a tent), this is your opportunity. You'll find the agency overview and the links to the positions here: https://buff.ly/3YBnBvK Be part of the change that a young person needs for a better life for themselves. #Homelessness #AreYouHandy #CommunityBetterment #HousingIsARight Community Foundation of Greater Peterborough Peterborough and the Kawarthas Chamber of Commerce Peterborough County

Facing and overcoming burnout was a game-changer for Tracie Eaton. It pushed her to reconnect with her passion for creativity, which became essential to her healing. By tuning into what she truly needed, she made purposeful changes and founded Art for Rescue, a fundraising organisation that backs Destiny Rescue's fight against child sexual exploitation. Now, she uses art and storytelling to share powerful stories of rescued children, dedicated heroes, and those who have overcome incredible challenges. #burnout #burnoutcoach #burnoutprevention #burnoutrecovery #careerburnout #careerchange https://lnkd.in/gtrWzUNE

🌟 Urgent Call to Action: Support Adult Day Services 🌟 In our community, adult day providers serve as a lifeline, offering essential care services to some of our most vulnerable individuals. Their dedication and hard work ensure that those in need receive the support and care they deserve. However, they are currently facing a critical challenge that threatens their ability to continue their vital services. The Senate has recognized the importance of these services and proposed a commendable 30% rate increase in the budget to support adult day providers adequately. This increase is essential for them to sustain and enhance the quality of care they offer. Unfortunately, the House's current budget proposal falls significantly short, offering funding for only a 10% increase. Let's bridge this gap together! By ensuring our adult day providers and the individuals they serve receive the funding they need, we can continue to support their invaluable work. Now is the perfect moment for us to come together and take positive action! 📢 Take action here: https://lnkd.in/gAtamCUG #SupportAdultDay #ActNow #CommunityCare #FundingGap #Advocacy #MakeADifference

Many people, myself included, often view practicing self-care as selfish. However, it's crucial to debunk this myth. As Thich Nhat Hanh eloquently states, self-care is, in essence, the most profound form of volunteerism. Especially within the domain of domestic violence advocacy, tending to our well-being becomes essential to effectively aid those who suffer. So, how can we embrace this vital endeavor? Here are some pointers to kickstart your journey... https://lnkd.in/gmzApSPU #selfcare #domesticviolence #domesticabuse #volunteer

Helping you unlearn unhealthy social views that impact your physical, emotional, mental, and social well-being pertaining to your sexuality.
This #ChildProtectionWeek, let's unite to ensure every child feels safe, loved, and protected. It takes a village to raise a child, and we all play a part in safeguarding their well-being. Here are a few ways you can contribute: 1. **Educate**: Teach children about their rights and how to stay safe. 2. **Listen**: Create a safe space for children to express their concerns. 3. **Report**: Speak up if you see or suspect abuse. Protecting children is everyone's responsibility. 4. **Support**: Offer support to families in need. Sometimes, a little help can prevent a crisis. Together, we can create a safer, brighter future for our children. 💚 #ProtectOurKids #ChildSafety #CommunityCare #ChildWelfare #EveryConversationMatters #ChildTrafficking

The State Budget has been delivered, and while we’re disappointed that the focus remains on non-family based residential care, we see opportunities ahead. At The Reily Foundation, we believe in the power of early intervention, reunification, and Family Group Conferencing. Our programs have demonstrated positive outcomes for children, young people, and their families. Future Funding Needs: While the budget addresses many critical areas, there are still gaps that require attention. The Reily Foundation is committed to advocating for additional funding to support early intervention and child protection initiatives to ensure that every family has access to the resources they need. Our Next Steps: 1. Collaborate with new and existing partners to maximize the impact of the allocated budget. 2. Advocate for additional funding to bridge gaps in early intervention and child protection initiatives. 3. Work tirelessly to create a safer, nurturing environment for all families. We believe that with sustained effort and collaborative partnerships, we can create a safer and more nurturing environment for all families. #ReilyFoundation #EarlyIntervention #FamilySupport #ChildProtection #Advocacy #CommunityPartners #SaferFamilies
