📢Today Dogger Bank Wind Farm launches one of the largest community investments in offshore wind in the UK - The £25 million community fund will build on the £1 million community fund already invested in the North and North-East of England during the construction phase of the world’s largest wind farm 💨 🧪 🔭🧮The fund will be used to enhance science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) education for young people during the planned 35-year operational lifespan of the wind farm, equipping them with the skills to succeed in a net zero world. The investment includes: 👷♀️👷Building on the job creation of the existing fund which has supported 2,000+ jobs in the UK - contributing to the 100,000+ jobs needed in offshore wind to meet current national targets. 🎓 Growing the current scholarship programme with 30 scholarships a year for students studying STEM subjects. 📚Helping support young people - with 36,000+ young people across 204 schools having been supported through the existing fund. This includes 62 university scholarships and 87 grants to local community groups! I need help with a conundrum... I have an educational non-profit business model that I've been working on, which would perform a massive service to the renewable energy industry and solve some major labor issues. -But at the same time, I need to pay my bills. The current problem is that there is a huge gap between the renewable energy industry and the general public. The general public does not know what jobs exist within our industry. This includes not only students of all ages, but academia as well. Our educational institutions are begging to know what jobs exist within renewable energy, so they can teach to them and direct students our way. Then beyond students and academics, you have those that are in other industries, but have applicable skills that could be transferred to renewable energy. We need people and people need us. But no one is completely solving the disconnect. With a humble heart and a servant's mentality, I have a very good answer for this and my desire is to work on this full time. But I need help to do this. Like everyone, I need to pay my bills. It also takes tools, as well as working with lawyers, and CPA's to lay the groundwork. I've socialized this with some big players, including ACP, but I have yet to gain commitments from anyone. I'm asking all renewable energy professionals and companies for guidance, connections and help in creating a library of careers that are available within renewable energy and accessible for everyone in the world to access. This would be a huge benefit to the world. The best way to do this, would be to gain donations for support from many players in the industry. In turn, these sponsor would have worldwide exposure. And it’s just one of a growing number of foundations eager to support scientists exploring whether the world could ease #climatechange by reflecting away more sunlight. Quadrature Climate Foundation, established in 2019 and funded through the proceeds of the investment fund Quadrature Capital, plans to provide $40 million for work in this field over the next three years, Greg De Temmerman, the organization’s chief science officer, told MIT Technology Review. That’s a big number for this subject—double (https://lnkd.in/e8CQeENU) what all foundations and wealthy individuals provided from 2008 through 2018 and roughly on par (https://lnkd.in/e8fgSG3T) with what the US government has offered to date. “We think we can have a very strong impact in accelerating research, making sure it’s happening, and trying to unlock some public money at some point,” De Temmerman says. Other nonprofits are set to provide tens of millions of dollars’ worth of additional grants to solar #geoengineering research or related government advocacy work in the coming months and years. The uptick in funding will offer scientists in the controversial field far more support than they’ve enjoyed in the past and allow them to pursue a wider array of lab work, modeling, and potentially even outdoor experiments that could improve our understanding of the benefits and risks of such interventions. “It just feels like a new world, really different from last year,” says David Keith, a prominent geoengineering researcher and founding faculty director of the Climate Systems Engineering Initiative at the University of Chicago. Other nonprofits that have recently disclosed funding for solar geoengineering research or government advocacy, or announced plans to provide it, include the Simons Foundation, the Environmental Defense Fund, and the Bernard and Anne Spitzer Charitable Trust. In addition, Meta’s former chief technology officer, Mike Schroepfer, told MIT Technology Review he is spinning out a new nonprofit, Outlier Projects. He says it will provide funding to solar geoengineering research as well as to work on ocean-based carbon removal and efforts to stabilize rapidly melting glaciers. Outlier has already issued grants for the first category to the Environmental Defense Fund, Keith’s program at the University of Chicago, and two groups working to support research and engagement on the subject in the poorer, hotter parts of the world: the Degrees Initiative and the Alliance for Just Deliberation on Solar Geoengineering. Extraordinary outcomes start with ordinary steps! Nixerlex Youth Development Foundation (NYDF) May 4th Tree Planting Exercise was hugely successful. Although, in the beginning, and even somewhere close to the start of the finish lap, it didn't seem to have a success potential. My team and I experienced a wide range of emotions when well-thought-out plans kept hitting a brick wall, and the wall refused to give in. The most formidable challenge was choosing the right location for our efforts to have an impact and be truly appreciated. It was tough because our goals weren't just to plant trees but to improve the people's lives in the region while instilling in them (especially youths) the responsibility to cater to their environment. After the event, I was happy it all came to pass, and none of our worries came along 😁. As the executor of all things leading to the success of this event, I'm so proud of myself. 💥 Exciting news! After one year of working alongside my fellow board members Perihan Bassatne and Iulia Kiraly, today we have launched BB Energy Foundation ! 👉As someone who has worked for over 30 years in the international development sector, working with organisations all over the world to address extreme poverty and inequality, it was a privilege to develop a strategy that aims to address some of the challenges I have observed, not just in terms of our thematic priorities, but above all HOW we support. The process of distributing resources is something that I have experienced first-hand through multiple different relationships with funders, so it was particularly important for me, to ensure that the Foundation is a collaborative and flexible funder with a simple and clear approach. ❤️Firstly, we will focus on women and children, because we know they are disproportionately affected and it is our moral imperative to address the persisting inequalities that women and girls face all over the world. As a long-term advocate for women and girls’ rights, it is a joy to be able to so clearly and unapologetically focus on the population most affected by poverty. Secondly, we will focus on education, health, and wellbeing. 📖 I know from my experience of investing in educational programmes, that is education in all its form – and this includes skills trainings for adult women – that it is deeply and sustainably transformative. 🏥 We also focus on health and well-being.
