What’s the secret to our roundtables? 😎 Our Islington roundtable was a huge success! Find out for yourselves in our recap video below. 📹 What did we prioritise? 👇 🧑🤝🧑 People: from facilitators to our attendees and partners. We take a thoughtful, proactive and hands-on approach to make sure our programme is centred around who we’re here to serve. 📜 Content: without focus, you risk the session being scattered and lacking value. We’re clear with what outcomes we want to achieve from the start. ✨ Vibe: nobody likes events with too little food or in a room with no windows. This is why we’re intentional about the type of venue, structure, food and atmosphere we create, to ensure it doesn't feel like another boring work event. Shoutout to our dream partners for bringing this to life with us Islington Council 💙

🎤 Message from CEO David Sargent and Deputy CEO Jean Trench: As we reflect on the recent My Voice conferences in Dunfermline and Newcastle, we are filled with an immense sense of pride and admiration for all those involved. These events have not only showcased the incredible journeys of the individuals we support, but they have also served as a powerful reminder of the diverse and meaningful lives they are leading—whether through employment, volunteering, or the pursuit of new hobbies and passions. The voices we heard at these conferences were both moving and empowering. They embody the core values of Real Life Options: honesty, respect, excellence, and responsibility. Every person who shared their story has contributed to a broader conversation about inclusion and choice and the varied ways people live fulfilling lives. It is a privilege for Real Life Options to support them on their paths. We also want to take this opportunity to thank the phenomenal support workers whose unwavering commitment ensures that each individual is given the chance to thrive. Your dedication truly enriches the lives of the people we support. Finally, to the My Voice Working Group, your tireless efforts in bringing this event to life cannot go unrecognised. These conferences and the continuous work to deliver our MyVoice surveys have provided an invaluable platform for self-expression, and your work in making that possible is a testament to your passion and belief in everything that we set out to achieve. Let’s carry the energy and insights gained from these inspiring events into the coming year as we continue to champion the voices of people we support and introduce the changes shared. Onwards and upwards.

As I wrap up week 4 at Real Life Options, attending the recent My Voice conferences in Dunfermline and Newcastle has been an eye-opening experience. These events have given me a deeper understanding of what Real Life Options truly stands for, and I’m even more excited to help drive our marketing forward. One key takeaway from the conferences was the conversation around employability for the individuals we support. Listening to those who have found work and hearing how much it enriches their lives—giving them a sense of purpose—was incredibly inspiring. But equally moving were the stories from those who are struggling to find employment, despite their strong desire and passion to contribute. It’s disheartening to hear that so many feel ignored, but I’m proud to see Real Life Options exploring ways to help people with disabilities seek and secure meaningful work. I feel privileged to be part of an organisation so committed to giving people the support and opportunities they need to live fulfilling lives. My aim now is to help Real Life Options raise awareness of all the incredible work we do to empower individuals and champion their independence. I can't wait to get started! So, for my connections reading this: If you haven't already, please follow Real Life Options and give their posts a thumbs up. Help us make a difference by sharing the work we do and amplifying our message. Together, we can make a real impact! #followus #like #makeadifference #charity

Christmas Drinks with the SA Community Engagement network The email is coming I promise, just a few final touches to be signed off but pencil in 4th December from 4pm if you want to come and join the SA Community Engagement networks end of year debrief with drinks and nibbles. City Centre location in Adelaide. For those of you that have let me know you want an invite either via dm or from the survey we used for the West Hindmarsh walk, I hope to get the email and calendar invite to you early next week. If you haven't let me know yet, DM me your email and I will add you to the 'list'. While it will be an opportunity to relax and network we also thought it would be a good opportunity to share, debrief and learn. So you can start planning for the event, we'd like you to start thinking about a project, win or learning, that you might want to 'show & tell'. We are going to offer two options to share with your colleagues. A, an old school poster display (pop-sticks and glitter optional) on a wall where people can take a look or B, a PechaKucha style presentation where you present 20 slides with only 20 seconds per slide. Obviously this is a choice, not a requirement to attend, but it would be great to hear from some of you on what you have achieved or learnt through project work this year in a fun and safe space. #communityengagement #networking #southaustralia Sarah Hill Selene Seet

What do marketing professionals and business leaders have in common? 👥 They all want to understand the most efficient and effective ways to grow their businesses. The problem for many is that while these topics are part of the zeitgeist at events in bigger cities, regional access is incomplete. And there’s something in coming together as a group to share challenges and discuss opportunities that a lifetime of webinars can’t compete with. Last week, Moray Hub Host and Scottish Marketers 🏴 Leader Ailsa Stinson of B is for Brand Ltd kicked off our Marketing Meetups in the beautiful Greenbrae Steading. And we unpacked this in more detail than any conference is capable of: the real-life obstacles facing companies, causes and communities; and the potential solutions we can work on together to overcome them. Wouldn’t you like to know what some of those were? You’ll just have to come to one of our future meetups! You can join our Scottish Marketers 🏴 Group to be the first to find out about future events in your area. With special thanks to Lucy Morrison for being our Venue Sponsor. It was great to meet Hub founding members including Gary Murison, Dominique Didinal, Trudi Lawrie, Lee Midlane, Fleur Rush, Duncan Morrison. —— I’m the Client Services Director at Yatter - Scotland’s specialist online advertising agency. Town halls have been the go-to for public engagement, but let’s be honest—they rarely work for everyone. Here’s why: _They often attract the same voices again and again. _Barriers like timing, location, and public speaking anxiety keep others away. _They don’t adapt to the needs of today’s diverse communities. So, what’s the alternative? _Host pop-up events at local parks or markets. _Use digital tools like text surveys or apps for feedback. _Hold targeted discussions to ensure every group gets heard. The goal isn’t just more participation—it’s smarter, more inclusive engagement that leads to better solutions. What’s your favorite alternative to town halls?
