It's hard to put into words the sites and scenes we are watching unfold in our beautiful state. Western North Carolina is absolutely devastated from the catastrophic and historical flooding caused by Hurricane Helene. Places many of us have visited are absolutely decimated, and those who call these beautiful towns home are not only displaced but also desperate for support. The recovery won't end in the next few days - or even the next few weeks. It will take months, if not years, for these areas to recover and begin restoring some sense of normalcy. We each have an opportunity to ask ourselves: what if this was me? And once you reflect on that question, I encourage every person in my network to consider how you can contribute to this recovery effort. Join Jason Rymer and me in donating to United Way of North Carolina. Their fund will support both the short- and long-term efforts in Western N.C. If you'd prefer to give in other ways, consider giving to the local chapter of the Red Cross, Samaritan's Purse and World Central Kitchen -- each of these organizations has local responders on the ground. It's time to band together. It's time to spark the collective power of community giving. It's time to rebuild our state. It's time to support our fellow Carolinians. #HurricaneHelene #GiveBack #SupportWNC
United Way of North Carolina (UWNC) is proud to announce the launch of its UW Helps NC Fund, an initiative designed to support both immediate and long-term recovery efforts in communities impacted by Hurricane Helene. The Duke Energy Foundation is making a generous donation of $100,000 to the Governor’s NC Disaster Relief Fund, a state fund which is also managed by United Way of North Carolina. This partnership with Governor Roy Cooper's office and THE DUKE ENERGY FOUNDATION has matched UWNC’s fundraising efforts, doubling what has been raised to date, thanks to the collective giving power of our community. Hello my LinkedIn network. As you may know, Hurricane Helene has caused devastating damage across North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida. I rarely ask for help, but if you/your company would like to assist with relief efforts, Lesley Mackie listed a few resources:
Still reeling over the devastation in Western North Carolina after Helene. There are still so many people in need and stranded. If you can spare a few dollars, please consider donating to any of these causes that are on the ground and in the air to support our mountain neighbors. Help our neighbors impacted by the hurricane and flooding. As someone who knows firsthand, the devastation that comes from a hurricane and flooding, I can tell you that the impacted communities are in for a long journey of recovery. Help is needed, not just now, but in the months to come. If you are moved to help, please consider donating through Catholic Charities USA. 100% of donated funds are distributed directly to impacted areas. You might be want to collect and then send donated goods like supplies, clothes and other in-kind support. I encourage you to consider a financial gift instead. In-kind donations are needed, but not right now. When a community is as ravaged as these communities are, finding places to store, sort and distribute donations is not easy. Let them buy what is most needed by the community to help in the recovery efforts. Let's help the communities in our neighboring states. They were here for us when we needed them, now let's pay it forward.

In the days and months to come, there will be many posts surrounding the devastation following Hurricane Helene and it will become readily apparent that people want to help - need to help. Please Please be careful. Disaster fraud is real and there are bad actors out there who will take advantage of this. Before you donate, please do your research. The American Red Cross is always your safest bet, HOWEVER, there are plenty of other folks out there on the ground that need your help to get aid to the ones that need it - just make sure they are legit. According to the FTC, you can check on give.org, charitynavigator.org, charitywatch.org or guidestar.org.

First and foremost, my thoughts and prayers are with everyone affected by Hurricane Helen. For those looking to help, please take this important step first: Verify that the organization you intend to donate to is legitimate. Many scammers exploit such crises to take advantage of generous donations. To confirm the credibility of a charity, visit these three websites: - IRS.gov - CharityNavigator.org - GuideStar.org These resources will give you the information you need. If the organization isn't well-known, take the time to research them before making a donation! #HurricaneHelen #DisasterRelief #SupportSurvivors #GiveBack #CharityCheck #HelpHurricaneVictims #DonorAwareness #LegitCharities #DisasterAid #CommunitySupport
