Really enjoyed attending "The Power of Purpose: Exploring the Basics of Business Community Engagement" hosted by Richmond Chamber of Commerce, InUnison, United Way of Greater Richmond & Petersburg, and Community Foundation yesterday. My key takeaways: 1) Business Community Engagement has so many positive ripple effects on the company, volunteers/employees, and community. Engagement begets more engagement which begets even more engagement and small actions add up. 2) The business case for Community Engagement is strong. From retention to recruiting to marketing, it's also a great financial investment. For all my L+D friends, it was also a great reminder that the best learning is often very simple. The handout was a series of easy reflection questions that broke down the process into easy, actionable steps and a helpful resource I will continue to use. #communityengagement, #unitedway, #richmond, #simplelearning GIF Description: Erika's nametag for the event with a smiling and dancing cartoon whose face is the planet earth.

Let’s start a conversation! Last week, Allison Farole, MPA, CEM, MiPEM and I discussed the concept of building community preparedness. In this, we shared an observation that our current culture has shifted away from prioritizing and fostering a sense of “community.” Modern-day society coupled with technology advancements have shifted our mind-set. We are less connected to our neighbors, colleagues, schools, towns, city-centers, etc., than at any other time in history. And our long-standing viewpoint/sense of what “community” is, no longer exists. So, the QOTD is this: How do you build community preparedness, without community being a part of your culture?

3rd attempt to post. Though at DEA they are not so proud to highlight their shortcomings that they have no issue hiding from taxpayers. They removed my previous posts which simply expresses DEA's willingness to hide their incompetence and disabled comments on the appropriate post. If this firm put out the truth and numbers of how many things they had to redo on this Highway 20 Safety Upgrade between Corvallis and Albany OR taxpayers would have something to say about this firm’s laughable ranking. How about it DEA, put out an itemized list of everything that had to be done two or three times because it wasn’t done right in the first place and how much taxpayers money was wasted in the process. In my driveway alone they had to do multiple things more than once. No wonder ODOT never comes in on budget with incompetence like this! Taxpayers should not have to foot the bill for this! DEA was contracted for at least the Newberg-Dundee Bypass, the worst one, up 239% from original estimate. https://lnkd.in/epv6uESx
Meet our next community champions in our Denver office! Our Denver staff volunteers for Food for Thought, an organization that seeks to provide children across the Denver metro area with food certainty over weekends during the school year. McKenna Jones, who participated along with teammates from DEA’s Denver office, said, “We recognize the importance of giving back to the communities in which we work, which is why we are proud to partner with Food for Thought Denver. Children are the future, and we are passionate about working to eliminate childhood hunger in our community.” At DEA, we're proud to highlight our community champions who embody our commitment to corporate social responsibility.

Discovering the Heartbeat of Successful Community Outreach Have you ever wondered what truly makes community outreach programs succeed? 👉 It's not just about organizing events or raising funds. The real secret lies in understanding and connecting with the community at its core. 👉 During my journey in event marketing and community leadership, I've learned that listening is more powerful than speaking. Tailoring programs to meet the specific needs and desires of the community not only fosters engagement but also builds lasting relationships. 👉 Success comes from creating spaces where voices are heard, contributions are valued, and everyone has a sense of belonging. In essence, effective community outreach is rooted in empathy, flexibility, and a genuine commitment to service. As we plan our next initiatives, let's focus on being catalysts for positive change by putting people first. After all, it's the connections we forge that drive real impact.
