The 2024 WomenRise journey has officially kicked off, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to celebrate these determined women. Last month, scholarship recipients and committee members gathered for a picnic at Rockwood Park’s United Way Early Learning Trail, sponsored by Genworth, celebrating the new 2024 cohort and honoring the achievements of our 2023 graduates. Know a single mom finishing her degree and looking for support? Let her know about WomenRise and learn more about how you can get involved at https://lnkd.in/dCxQmF6. I love how nonprofits collaborate to accomplish their missions by supporting other community providers so my colleagues Ronald Champion Sr and Angie Hart were excited to have a great community partner like Tiffani Beissel with United Way of Greater Richmond & Petersburg stop by the HumanKind Economic Resource Center with so many toiletry kits that we will help distribute into our community. #waystowork #communitysupport #collaboration #autoloans #nonprofits

It was an honor to welcome Angela F. Williams, JD, M.Div, President & CEO of United Way Worldwide to Richmond last week for an insightful discussion with our Board of Directors and Tocqueville Society. Angela’s stories of meaningful work happening around the globe reminded us of the immense power we hold to create real, lasting change. Her message resonated deeply: together, we have a unique opportunity to make a difference that extends far beyond today. Special thank you to the team at Genworth for making this event possible and highlighting the importance of a strong network. Together, we’re laying the groundwork for a community where everyone has the opportunity to thrive. Explore how we’re driving bold change at yourunitedway.org.

EveryDay Strong Tip: Confidence Build confidence by expressing confidence. When you are concerned about a child’s achievement levels in school, sports or the arts, resist the urge to lecture on the seriousness of the situation or to problem solve for them. Instead, give some calm reassurance and encouragement such as, ”What do you think might help?” or “Sometimes things take time. It’s OK not to have all of this figured out right now.” Our EveryDay Strong program uses a research-based framework to help caring adults build a sense of safety, connection, and confidence in young people. EveryDay Strong Tip: Safety Notice and comment on things you observe about your child when you’re apart. The goal is for the child to feel safe to do things without you by emphasizing that they’re still in your thoughts when they’re away. For example, “I saw you playing with your friends today! I love watching you enjoy life!” Our EveryDay Strong program uses a research-based framework to help caring adults build a sense of safety, connection, and confidence in young people.
