Today, Stephen Lewis and the AB team will provide our Sales Practicum students with valuable lessons on managing their finances after landing their first significant job. "Practical Thought about Practical Thought" -Late Charlie Munger Read this case study of Coca-Cola in 2019 during my UG placements, which applied unconventional wisdom to building a billion-dollar enterprise in the 1880s using basic concepts of psychology, biology, maths, and economics. Inverted thinking helps solve this problem by understanding what is the target to be reached and building backwards. Compared to forward-thinking used in case preparations at B-schools, this is a superior approach that was highlighted by Carl Jacobi and accentuated by Charlie Munger. This is extensively used in reverse engineering problems. Would suggest reading Poor Charlie's Almanac for anyone interested in common sense investing. Kicking off our graduating senior spotlights with Carlos Murillo, National Director of the Junior Economist and Junior Economic Club of Chicago Vice President! He plans to study Financial Economics at Columbia University in New York City. Listen to Carlos' takeaways from his JEC experience below. "My time at JEC has been incredible! Since sophomore year, the events and webinars have helped me formulate what I want to do in college and for my career. My interest in economics originally stemmed from the club, and I am excited to continue that as a Financial Economics major at Columbia University. I was also given the opportunity to lead on the local and national level with JEC, which sparked my love for completing tasks and growing the organization. I appreciate JEC's emphasis on mentorship - I still talk to alumni and gain insight from them, and their knowledge made the college application process easier. I have also enjoyed mentoring my peers. I spent last year meeting with almost every new member, and witnessing them go to forums and apply for the board makes me proud to have been their first contact with the club. I will continue to help JEC with whatever it needs and recommend it to any high school student." I recently completed the Real Estate Economics and Finance summer program at the The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). I had an incredible experience engaging with these topics while exploring the city and culture. Specifically, we explored urban economic processes, property markets, investment markets, and the socioeconomic environments they effect. I am excited to apply this knowledge during my sophomore year in the Economics department Denison University.
