Introduction To Drone Cinematography

Quick tip on how to make your drone footage look less amateur. Don’t fly unnecessarily high. When you’re up in the air it’s really tempting to fly as high as (you’re allowed). The problem with this is you end up having no depth to the image. To create depth you need something in the foreground for perspective. Flying lower (within reason) gives you foreground and background separation and will 10x your drone shots. "Producing naturalistic underwater cinematography is a complex yet highly rewarding job. In this series of clips, I've filmed some behind-the-scenes footage showing how an underwater set is prepared with tripods, lights, cameras, dollies, and various accessories. The challenge lies in the amount of cinematography equipment that needs to be taken underwater, in addition to our scuba gear with tanks and decompression cylinders. Finding the subject to film and hoping it does something interesting to build the scene is also crucial. Time clearly plays a crucial role, both for the supply of breathing gas and for decompression time. The longer we spend diving, the longer the decompression stops before resurfacing. If our subject is found at depths beyond 30/40 meters, the work becomes even more complicated and risky. In this clip, a small nudibranch feeding appears in all its beauty through a tracking shot. Lights are very important, and I try to illuminate the subject in a way that the lighting becomes part of the scene, as if it were natural light illuminating the subject. These mini workshops can be very helpful in understanding the production process."
