The Korean Medical Association announces a joint press conference after the general election... Medical crisis is a watershed moment. The Korean Medical Association and other medical groups have announced plans for a joint press conference after the general election, indicating a possible escalation in the ongoing medical crisis. The government has expressed a willingness to hold discussions with medical organizations in order to address the challenges faced by the medical community. The article also highlights the potential for compromise on the issue of increasing the number of medical school students. Furthermore, there is concern that the government may resume the process of suspending the licenses of deserting medical residents as the doctors' group action continues, causing a strain on medical capabilities. Additionally, universities are resuming medical school classes, but it is uncertain whether medical students will return to school, potentially leading to academic complications. #AsiaRisk #EpidemicsandPandemics #SouthKorea Follow us for daily updates on risk and operations in Asia! https://lnkd.in/gmcipQgn

Having my medical interpreter license has given me a greater understanding of it, although, at previous jobs, I had plenty of mock practices because it was mandatory; I was only watching other people do it, so I wasn't getting lots of real practice. 🏥 Listed below is a simpler version of the drill: Before anything else, check that the person is breathing and conscious. Ask loudly if they're listening and tap their shoulder if they're responding. ➡️ If seem conscious: There's no need to give chest compressions if the person is reacting. Just call 911. ➡️ If not conscious: ▪️ Find something to cushion a head and put them in a barrier-free area. ▪️ Use people around you to help you find AEDs and call 911. ▪️ Make sure to find the right compression area with a 90-degree arm angle, and put the right amount of pressure so that the chest deepens about 5cm. This has to be done 100-120 times per minute. (Use a weight and a good push, and watch if the chest returns to its place. This is standard for an adult, by the way.) ▪️ While mouth-to-mouth isn't essential, if you've started compressing, continue until first aiders arrive. #ReadADay #usefultips #심폐소생술 #뉴스 #heartwarming

Insightful artcile from Korea. "Failure" is also a part of clinical development, and even a strategic choice. The same goes for leadership. This is the reason why we emphasize new attempts, reward failure, and a strategy of quick pivoting and prompt revision in agility even by an incomplete plan rather than making a 100% of perfect plan from the beginning. Thus, I believe growth through failure is essentially the same journey as growth through success (Trial to failure = chance to success). If it is difficult to say “Let’s fail a lot”, what about the expression that “Let’s try as much as possible? (Even if it fails)" What is important in failure is to disclose in a timely and transparent manner the reasons behind why these strategic decisions made. We also should be able to applaud rather than look worried at the failures and strategic courage so confidently revealed. (Note there are even failure awards!!) Just analyze what we can learn from failure and prepare for the future do this differently. #Failure #FastFail #clinicaltrial #MSLS #Medical #MAPS #MSL https://lnkd.in/gG3zsjGz

“The ambulance hasn’t been able to get off for an hour… “Hospitals are not accepting patients who need surgery one after another.” Ambulances are not able to offload patients at major university hospitals due to a mass layoff by medical residents as part of a protest against the government's expansion of the medical school quota. Patients in need of surgery or procedures are being denied treatment as the hospitals are not accepting new admissions. The residents' strike is causing disruptions in emergency rooms and other medical departments, leading to concerns about how the hospitals will continue to operate. The government has pledged to ensure that emergency rooms operate normally, but the impact of the protest on patient care is becoming increasingly severe. As of now, a majority of residents from the top 100 teaching hospitals have submitted resignation letters, severely affecting the hospital's capacity to provide necessary medical care. #AsiaRisk #EpidemicsandPandemics #SouthKorea Follow us for daily updates on risk and operations in Asia! https://lnkd.in/day782WQ

Yoon, on medical strike, "Opposes increase in personnel by citing only direct interests... difficult to accept" (comprehensive) 17 city and provincial governors and superintendents of education gathered together to discuss agenda items such as 'medical reform' and 'Neulbom School'. President Yoon Seok-yeol expressed the need to increase medical school admissions quota, citing the protection of the medically vulnerable. He criticized the medical community's opposition to the increase and stated that it is difficult to justify collective action that threatens lives and safety. He also emphasized the regional differences in the Neulbom School, calling for cooperation for the sake of the children. President Yoon highlighted the need to establish a national care system and asked experts to donate their talents to children. #AsiaRisk #StrikesandWorkStoppages #SouthKorea Follow us for daily updates on risk and operations in Asia! https://lnkd.in/gbvfectu

My article in Nepali has been published by Nepal's number one news online portal, addressing critical issues in medical education and healthcare services in Nepal. The article highlights the challenges Nepal faces despite a steady increase in medical colleges, with 21 institutions currently producing over 1,500 doctors annually. However, issues such as imbalanced doctor-patient ratios, inadequate employment opportunities, and poor working conditions are affecting healthcare quality. Many doctors, dissatisfied with the healthcare system and policies, are seeking opportunities abroad, raising concerns about the future of healthcare in Nepal. #HealthcareInNepal #MedicalEducation #DoctorsInNepal #PublicHealth #HealthcareChallenges #MedicalTraining #NepaleseHealthcare #DoctorShortage #GlobalHealth #NEDOL

The ongoing situation in South Korea's #healthcare sector is concerning. Despite concerted efforts to establish a consultative group involving government entities, hospitals, doctors, and relevant associations, initiating dialogue has proven challenging, and divergent perspectives among these stakeholders have hindered progress. Simultaneously, the persisting resignations of doctors in #protest against governmental decisions continue to disrupt medical services. Tragically, just a month ago, a pregnant woman suffered a miscarriage due to being denied care at a hospital amidst the ongoing #strike. In this intricate landscape, I believe assigning blame achieves 'nothing'. Instead, it is imperative to acknowledge and uphold the rights of both clinicians and patients while prioritising the protection of lives. It is challenging, but consistent efforts to initiate dialogue are essential. #Collaboration between clinicians and government officials is critical, and it's the time for South Korea, renowned for having one of the best healthcare systems, to establish an association where political and medical professionals can effectively collaborate. Additionally, this endeavour must necessitate individuals with profound knowledge and commitment to healthcare leadership. #HealthcareCrisis #PatientRights #SouthKoreaHealthcare

Professor Kim Yun: “I think the government will kneel when doctors go on strike.” Kim Yoon, a professor of medicine at Seoul National University, stated that the government will yield if doctors go on a strike, citing past successful experiences. He believes that strikes have been effective in thwarting government policies that are detrimental to doctors. Professor Kim also criticized the Korean Medical Association for opposing the expansion of medical schools, stating that this would lead to a shortage of doctors and a decline in medical care in Korea. #AsiaRisk #StrikesandWorkStoppages #SouthKorea Follow us for daily updates on risk and operations in Asia! https://lnkd.in/gExw_BmZ

Even if doctors vote for a general strike in favor of a strike, the possibility of collective action remains unknown. The Korean Medical Association (KMA) held a vote on whether to go on a general strike to oppose the government's plans to increase the number of medical school admissions. The results of the vote have not been disclosed, but it is believed that many votes were in favor of a strike. However, a strike is not expected to be easy due to negative public opinion. The KMA has stated that the purpose of the vote was to confirm the opinions of its medical members and there are no plans to change their principle of non-disclosure. The KMA is urging the government to reach an agreement with the medical community and plans to continue dialogue. Public opinion is overwhelmingly in favor of increasing the number of medical schools, making it difficult for the KMA to justify a mass closure. The KMA is currently facing a different atmosphere compared to last year when a mass shutdown occurred, and there is a lack of internal momentum. Despite the opposition from the KMA, the Ministry of Health and Welfare plans to proceed with the expansion of medical schools in order to address the need for more doctors and essential medical services. #AsiaRisk #StrikesandWorkStoppages #SouthKorea Follow us for daily updates on risk and operations in Asia! https://lnkd.in/gArVPKyx

The 'license suspension' of breakaway majors begins... There will be no relief process The South Korean government is urging medical residents who left their hospitals to return, saying it will suspend their licenses for at least three months. On-site inspections have already begun, and residents found to be absent will be given advance notice of immediate license suspension. Strict and prompt action will be taken against key players involved in the collective action that caused confusion in the medical field. The government also plans to persuade full-time doctors who participated in collective action by giving up new contracts. In order to minimize medical gaps, the government plans to operate an emergency response emergency medical situation room and quickly provide financial support for hiring replacement personnel. The government will also enact the Special Act on Medical Accident Handling and launch a preparatory task force to speed up the four major medical reform tasks. As of the last hospital inspection, 72% of residents had left their workplaces. The government believes that the serious and emergency treatment system is being maintained despite some inconveniences in the medical field. #AsiaRisk #RegulatoryEnforcementActions #SouthKorea Follow us for daily updates on risk and operations in Asia! https://lnkd.in/gmCxJyTb
