Birth control, commonly referred to as contraception, is used to prevent pregnancy. Over 9 million Canadians are of reproductive age, making up almost 25% of the country's population. The recent bill proposing universal contraception coverage in Pharmacare intends to provide universal, single-payer coverage for various contraception medications and devices in collaboration with provinces and territories. How do you think this will affect patient care and reproductive health? This new episode, https://lnkd.in/eTBKtEqw, delves into that with guest Dr. Emeziem, A Family Medicine Physician with a special interest in women's health. Like and share this video with someone you care about, and I look forward to connecting with you soon... Transformation Director at Well Up North PCN and the Northumberland Medical Alliance - views are my own, but should be the views of far more powerful people!
https://lnkd.in/eBsq_CiX How sad to see such a rise in terminations of pregnancy. Just one example of the consequences of separating contraception from the mainstream NHS and having small public health budgets in pressured local authorities. It is a scandal that public health budgets have deliberately declined in real and actual terms since that decision. I can remember arranging well-attended LARC training sessions that were beneficial to all parties - and were fun to do. The schemes have been neglected and fitters have declined so much. It hasn't helped that the LES schemes and GP contract are in such disarray. Contraception Rx in my ICB is down 3% on last year against a rise in overall prescribed items. Just a further example of what happens when you focus on the consequences of a problem rather than the cause. We're too busy crashing around in crises to design and implement simple schemes that negate thoses crises - and in this case, every occasion is a tragedy. #nhs #nhsengland #marketaccess #prescribing #contraception #pharmaceuticals #pharmacy
