A month ago, an event called Idea Hunters 3.0, hosted by the ULAB Digital Marketing Club. It was like a big puzzle, and we, along with my university friends, decided to be a part of it. Starline was the cool sponsor, and they put up a whopping 100k as the prize money. We thought, "Hey, why not give it a shot?" So, we formed a team of three—my university pals and me. Being part of Idea Hunters 3.0 wasn't just about the competition; it was a growth journey for my leadership and communication skills. As a team member, I had to navigate ideas, share thoughts, and collaborate effectively with my university friends. Leading our team through the case study challenge, I discovered the importance of clear communication. Expressing ideas, listening to others, and finding common ground became crucial. It wasn't just about talking; it was about making sure everyone was on the same page. Moreover, the experience allowed me to step into a leadership role. I had to guide and motivate my team, ensuring that each member contributed their best. Decision-making and problem-solving became daily tasks, pushing me to lead with confidence. Even though we didn't clinch the top prize, the journey itself was a victory for my leadership and communication skills. It taught me that success isn't always about winning but about the growth and skills you acquire along the way. Now, I feel more prepared to lead and communicate effectively in future challenges and opportunities. It was like a journey, not just a competition. And who knows, maybe the next time around, we'll crack the code and be the champions. For now, we're proud of what we learned and excited for the adventures that lie ahead. I'VE BEEN GIVEN THE BOOT! ...and I couldn't be prouder. I've received a few awards but none as prestigious as the Golden Boot for top scorer for the season for my old guys footie team the Dragons! pictured here at the end-of-season tournament we played this weekend in Victoria BC. Don't be too impressed...it was a low bar this season! The main achievement is that we are nearly all over 60 and still running around a soccer pitch. For the younger folks out there, let me tell you that the competitiveness and desire to win doesn't diminish with age. Although we may not be as fast as we were, you learn to make the ball do the work and play as a team (like we were coached as school kids). And the lesson for life and brands - it's all about relationships and community. We've been playing together as a team for over 20 years. We all come from different professions and backgrounds but we share a common love of footie and a desire to stay fit. We're mutually supportive. There are always injuries and health challenges to deal with. Sometimes it takes a year or more to recover, but the team are there to support each other and come back. So a big thank you to all my teammates. A great season and a great tournament (P4 W3 D1 L0) to keep up tradition. Here is a great read on how SMBs can leverage big events like the Super Bowl, Essence, or any event. They are great opportunities to drive traffic towards your brand. For example, I know a cake designer who is doing a "Cupcake" Bowl in conjunction with the Super Bowl. People must vote for who they think will win via emails and social media. Once the game is over, she will send the winners discount codes for people to place their next order of cupcakes! And the losers, well they get nothing lol. I know an attorney who is doing a trademark filing special because the Kansas Chiefs are in the game. It doesn't have to be complicated but it does need to be attractive and fun. How could your business leverage the Super Bowl?
