How connected are you to the food you purchase and consume? Over the past century, society’s focus on the food it consumes has shifted from origins and process to the latest price increase. Many communities also face uncertainty about the availability and quality of fresh foods in their nearest store. In this episode, Alida Miranda-Wolff speaks with Lisa Tallman, the Executive Director of Community Food Navigator. This Chicago organization champions food sovereignty by establishing and strengthening connections at every level of the food system and helping communities wrest back control from the conglomerates that currently hold most of the power in cultivation, distribution, and consumption. Rediscover your connection to food, culture, and community and find out: 🍽️ How we lost food sovereignty and why getting it back is so important 🍽️ How individuals can rejoin the food system chain for huge local impact 🍽️ The challenges and barriers to seizing back control of our sustenance 🍽️ The inextricable connection between culture and food security Listen here: https://hubs.ly/Q02FK-V00

What if I told you that the food on your plate is more than just a meal? It’s a choice. It’s power. It’s your connection to the farmers who bring it to your table. We live in a time where people are more conscious about what they’re eating, but are we asking the right questions? Where does my food come from? How was it grown? Who are the hands that nurtured it? The beauty industry is already shifting—clean, natural products are in high demand. But what about the food industry? The more we understand the journey from soil to table, the better choices we can make for ourselves, our families, and the planet. Let’s start a conversation that goes beyond food—it’s about how we live, what we prioritize, and the communities we’re supporting. Together, we can connect better, live better, and eat better. What’s one thing you want to learn more about when it comes to your food choices? Drop your thoughts below.

Great to see an article on the importance of culturally relevant food! https://lnkd.in/g5QmeiM7 We recognize how vital culturally relevant foods are and prioritize getting the right foods to the right communities. We do this in a number of ways, including diversifying our food streams, from growers, to food donor partners, to purchases we make, and by investing in community-led hunger solutions. We continue to listen and learn from our clients and agency partners to understand which foods are most desired. We believe everyone deserves food that enables them not just to survive, but to fully thrive.

Let’s talk about informality in food systems. Currently most policies and investments in #foodsystems focus on the formal sector, neglecting the importance of the informal sector for food security and livelihoods. In our most recent newsletter, our researcher, Herman Brouwer, shares valuable resources that explore alternative approaches to engage informal #foodsystems and the role that other actors in the value chain can support and incentivize informal midstream businesses. Read more under the ‘food systems research’ section https://lnkd.in/dpn8ZpjZ and subscribe to our newsletter for more news and resources on food systems. The next edition drops in just a few days!
