Child care benefits pay for themselves, according to new research from Moms First and Boston Consulting Group (BCG). We were so proud to see our partner Etsy included, who shared that caregiving benefits—including Vivvi backup care—contribute to recruitment and retention, productivity and presence, career growth and job satisfaction among employees. This illustration gets me everytime. @momlife_comics has series of illustrations that really demonstrate the biases that impact women on so many levels. An overwhelming majority of account holders on Bumo are moms. Here are some funny things I hear from both customers and employers (and by funny, I really mean absurd): 1. "Can you guys call my wife to book the child care? She's better at these things." [Hm, interesting - "better". Elaborate.] 2. "Yea, we really would like to get child care for our female consultants." [Oh, so you, uh, male consultants will never have children? Oh, I get it, you're saying that some might father children but won't have to worry about child care but by default the consultants that become mothers will have to worry about the child care stuff.] 3. Them: "Yea, we don't need back up child care; can't imagine using it myself." Me: "Well, if my nanny called out sick, I would use back up child care instead of missing this meeting with you. Would you have missed this meeting because of lack of child care?" [No, because your partner probably deals with all the child care and is the default caregiver or care-figure-out-er.]

Positivity Post of the Day International Day of People with Disabilities, December 3rd, yay! It’s a long long journey to accepting being disabled. Longer still to be proud of it. Not everybody gets to either milestone. There’s a lot of stigma to confront, proud or not. I’m about to enter into a silly busy couple of weeks public speaking. Gives me purpose. Income. This is the snippet from Motherly®'s 2023 State of Motherhood report that stopped me in my tracks. The numbers are telling the truth. The stats are real. The percentages represent real women, real moms, real families being impacted by the state of working motherhood in our nation. And something has to change.
