We're featuring carbon calories alongside our recipes for the first time in the May issue of Good Food, alongside traditional nutritional information like fat, salt, and protein. Why? Because understanding the environmental impact of food makes it easier to make sustainable eating choices. We've got 25 recipes on goodfood.com with carbon calories calculated using the free Reewild tracking app, and three in the magazine alongside a feature explaining the concept of carbon calories and more about sustainable eating. Our Managing Editor Lulu Grimes says: "As a trusted brand for over 35 years, Good Food has run many features on sustainability and we’ve consulted lots of experts on the subject. The concept of carbon calories might be new to most people but it’s a simple way to raise awareness and help everyone make conscious choices about how what we put on our plates impacts the planet.” #Food #CarbonCalories #Reewild

This week, I started participating in a summer school program on sustainability with Navdisha Kumar. Every day, I have been reflecting on my behavior and life choices. This is the reflection from JUST TODAY: "Why go vegan?" As a regular meat consumer, the idea of going vegan can be challenging to relate to. However, being vegan and eating vegan are two different concepts. We can start by adopting a "climate-sensitive diet." Many of us have grown up with meat as a staple in our diets. We shouldn't feel ashamed or guilty about this. Instead of adopting an absolutist stance on going vegan, we can moderate our meals. For example, if you normally have three sausages for a meal, try having just one or two and use alternatives like beans to fill the gap. Simply avoiding red meat or limiting meat to one meal a day can also help the environment. The issue with eating meat isn't that meat itself is inherently bad, but rather the stages of meat production, including transportation and processing, which release significant amounts of harmful gases and contribute to land use issues. By making small, mindful changes to our diet, we can collectively make a positive impact on the environment. FUN FACT: Insects can provide a high amount of protein and are highly beneficial for the environment. #sustainable #environment #gohalfvegan #climatesensitivediet

It's Veganuary 🥗 We are entering the period of good resolutions. And why not good resolutions? Good for you and the planet! Eating more plant-based food is possible and enjoyable... But you don't have to eat 100% plant-based! The most important thing is to get started. By adopting new eating habits, and by favouring plant-based proteins, we now know that we can limit greenhouse gas emissions, slow down the depletion of natural resources and fight inequalities in the world while preserving our health! 🥕 And the good news is that eating more plant-based goes hand in hand with discovering new flavors by diversifying what's on your plate! 😊 #flexitarisme #transitionalimentaire #veganuary
