The sale of BUX to Dutch banking giant ABN AMRO recently represented a milestone example of why structuring a brokerage business correctly is paramount. BUX is a relatively lesser known brokerage and was still taking VC investments as late as 2021. At that time, many traditional CFD brokers were generating huge revenues and were cash rich, expanding their operations all over the world, yet it is BUX that has managed to sell its business to a large bank. The intrinsic value of a brokerage company is rooted in its structure rather than its time in business or cash position. It was great to be at the Alternative Credit Council #PCIF2024 in Miami last week and it particularly interesting to hear the growing prominence of special situations strategies – both US and European centric - in the forefront of LPs’ allocation decision making. The transaction set in European special situations real estate is the largest and most fertile since the #gfc and we expect market conditions in 2024 will allow the special situations mindset / methodology to come to the fore. #specialsituations #realestate #privatecredit
