How did European #aviation perform in 2023? Our special #EuropeanAviationOverview summarises the highlights of the year the network recovered 📈 to 10M+ ✈️ flights, , The EUROCONTROL #NM worked closely with #airlines #airports #ANSPs & all other ops actors to ensure our #Preparing4Summer roadmap saw the network manage well a difficult & busy ✈️ summer. The big picture 💡? With 10.2M ✈️ flights there was ⬆️10% more traffic than 2022 & 92% of pre-pandemic 2019 traffic, which was in line with our latest traffic forecast. 👉 Overall flight ✈️ punctuality for the year however was slightly worse than in 2022 – but well down on 2019 - as great coordination 🤝 was counterbalanced by #strikes earlier in the year, bad #weather ⛈️, especially in the busy summer months, and ongoing #airspace disruption caused by Russia's war of aggression against #Ukraine. ⏰ A timely in-depth look at European #aviation in 2023 – the year the network recovered 📈 to 10M+ ✈️ flights, ⬆️10% vs 2022 & 92% of pre-pandemic 2019, in line with our latest traffic forecast. Other pluses: strong 💪 work by the EUROCONTROL #NM coordinating with #airlines #airports #ANSPs & all other ops actors to manage a tricky summer & keep delays down. The main downside? Ensuring those 10.2M flights arrived on time proved tough despite great coordination 🤝 in the face of 🔸 strikes earlier in the year 🔸 a massive increase in adverse weather ⛈️, especially over the summer 🔸 continuing airspace disruption caused by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. 👉 As a result, and despite major efforts by all ops actors, overall flight ✈️ punctuality for the year was slightly worse than in 2022 – & well down on 2019. Impressive solution of automatic refuelling thanks to CoreAVI solutions.
The #A330MRTT of Republic of Singapore Air Force 🇸🇬 is getting ready for Singapore Airshow. #DidYouKnow that #Airbus and the RSAF worked together in 2023 to successfully complete the automatic air-to-air refuelling (A3R) flight test campaign? This involved an A330 MRTT ✈️ and the F-15, as part of a certification process. In addition, night flights were conducted with the F-15s and F-16s, which acted as receivers. The objective was to complete the A3R development and enable night capabilities with the automated system. Find out more on the A3R flight campaign we did with #Singapore 👉 https://lnkd.in/edAYw3MD #AirbusDefenceandSpace #Airbus #DefenceMatters #MilitaryAircraft #SGAirshow2024

Airlines across the world are rerouting and cancelling services due to conflict. Tensions escalated after Iran's drone and missile strike on Israel on April 13 Airlines across the world are rerouting and cancelling services due to the conflict in the Middle East in what has been described as the biggest disruption to air travel since 9/11. The situation, which shot up the global agenda after Hamas' October 7 attack in Israel has recently been escalated by Iran's failed drone and missile attack on April 13. The intervention caused 'chaos' in the aviation industry - further narrowing options for planes navigating between Europe and Asia - with over 10 airlines cancelling or rerouting flights in the following week. A graphical representation of air traffic shows airspace over Iran and the neighbouring Middle East countries at 1am on April 14 following Iran's unprecedented attack on Israel 0

This is how the local traffic looked just 15 years ago. The Ilyushin Il-86 middle range widebody made a long journey from Saint Petersburg across the whole country. It was the first Soviet wide-body airliner and was designed to carry up to 350 passengers on short-to-medium-range flights. However, it had a relatively short service life due to its outdated and fuel-hungry engines. In the late 1970s, the Il-86 was designed not only as the first Soviet wide-body airliner but also to facilitate passenger and baggage handling at airports. The aircraft had three airstairs doors on the port side, so passengers could board directly from the tarmac. This helped to speed up boarding and eliminate the need to sort baggage at the terminal. In the baggage compartment, there were shelves where passengers could carry and place their bags. However, this self-baggage loading system was limited to 15 kg per passenger due to weight and balance concerns. In practice, it was rarely used and the shelves were mostly used for cabin baggage only. #aviation #aviationhistory #commercialaviation #aircraft #aerospacetechnology #airlineoperations #history

🚨 Airlines dealt with flight disruptions on Monday after Iran's missile attack on Israel forced airspace closures. This is the biggest disruption since 9/11, according to industry experts. 🔴 Over a dozen airlines including Qantas, Lufthansa, and United Airlines cancelled or rerouted flights. 🔴 The attack narrowed air travel options between Europe and Asia, with airlines left with just two main routes. Disruptions are expected to last a few days and come on top of existing conflicts impacting air travel. 🔴 While passenger demand has remained strong, analysts warn that continued escalation could dampen travel enthusiasm. #IranIsraelConflict #AirTravelDisruption #FlightCancellations #AlternateRoutes #AviationIndustry

Korean Air announced that it has renewed its cabin service procedure in light of rising cases of extreme turbulence on commercial flights. Since July 1, 2024, the South Korean flag carrier has wrapped up its in-flight services 40 minutes prior to landing on all medium to long-haul flights, 20 minutes earlier than the previous service policy. Korean Air believes that the 20-minute change will allow in-flight services to end before the airplane begins its descent to land, thereby minimizing the risk of turbulence to passengers and crew members. "Aviation Leader | 30+ Years in Airport Operations, Customer Experience, & Ground Handling | Expertise in Streamlining Operations & Driving Profitability"
The recent ballistic missile strikes by Iran on Israel are significantly impacting regional aviation. Following the missile launches, Israel has closed its airspace to ensure safety, affecting both passenger and cargo flights. This airspace restriction will likely cause flight rerouting, increased fuel costs, and extended travel times, especially for airlines operating in and around the Middle East. Given the heightened security risks, many airlines may reduce or suspend flights to Israel, Lebanon, and nearby regions, further straining already tense travel conditions. Airports in the vicinity, including those in Jordan and Cyprus, may see increased traffic as flights avoid Israeli airspace. #MiddleEastConflict #AviationSafety #FlightDelays #AirspaceClosure #TravelAlerts #IsraelAviation

ACAMS Airport Tower Solutions, a European supplier of air traffic control (ATC) systems, announces that it has completed a contract for the delivery of a new i6 ATIS in Sardinia island. The ACAMS i6 ATIS system is put into operation at Decimomannu Air Base that hosts the International Flight Training School, and is also likely to become an airbase for the Italian Air Force F-35 fighter jets. ACAMS i6 ATIS will provide the actual present weather situation, the state of the runway, as well as other pertinent information. This information will enhance air traffic safety and efficiency, with relevant information being distributed automatically through the ATIS system. This is the 4th Italian Air Force airbase ACAMS supplies with an ATIS, as ATIS systems were previously delivered to three other air bases in recent years. In 13 days Ukraine destroyed 13 russian planes! There are two important points: (1) russia makes less than a dozen of these planes per year, (2) even if russia could manufacture new aircraft fast enough (x40), they cannot replace the pilots needed to fly these planes.
